With the info about qik and Fixwagon recently being posted I decided to look for video recording software available. I found the following:

http://www.iphonevideorecorder.com/

It's not available for 3G (yet) so I can't take it for a spin. Anyone have experience with it on a 1st gen iPhone?

Thx!

I cannot wait for this to come out for 3g. I had it on my old phone for quite some time and it was an amazing app that ran smoothly and was easy to use. I found myself using it all the time, and it did everything I asked of it. Can't wait for it to come out!!!

I really want something like this to come out already. I'm tired of these "live streaming web video" things.

They ARE out for the 3g. I just did a test video with both of them.
The quality is not good. Probably because of the streaming? But they do work VERY easy. Must jailbreak. There was a a recorder for the 2g that was much better, clearer so I'm mostly waiting for that to come back.

last i saw of this it was only 15 frames per second, which would make it very jerky to watch. It woul be nice to get an app that will do 24-25 frames per second. I really think the iphone can do it, we just need someone to come out with it.

It is excellent. I used and bought it i the 1st gen phone. It is queued for the app store and has been for a long time

Cycorder? Never heard of it. Is it in Cydia or does one have to manually add the source, etc? ??

Yeah it was released yesterday by Jay Freeman (saurik), the developer of Cydia. You can find it in Cydia in the featured apps at the top.

Only problem is, I don't see anyway to send via email, etc. I think one would have to ssh into it and grab the file somehow? Not something I want to do.
Hopefully this feature will be added. Simple email ability.

Yeah it doesn't have that feature yet. You can SSH in and grab the .mov file at /private/var/mobile/Media/Videos but it's a hassle if you want to email videos often.

I'm sure he'll add features in the future. He's thinking about sound and eventually even more, but will probably charge something at that point.

Cycorder's pretty cool. I just installed it this morning. Haven't played with it too long, but it's nice and simple. Not too many bells and whistles, but it records video. That's all I wanted :)

I recommend reading the frequently asked questions on the Cycorder package page. If you have a Mac its /really/ easy to get files off: you can install Netatalk and use the simple howto I have (which includes screenshots!) on how to use filesharing from your desktop to just browse your home directory on the phone.

Looks like this just got updated for 2.0 :D

Currently in waiting for the App Store too.

Yeah. Good luck with that ;P. Cycorder has been in that queue for over a /month/ now (it was ready for 2.x on the release day of App Store).

iPhone Video Recorder is using the PhotoLibrary framework and Cycorder uses CoreSurface and IOKit, none of which are allowed (although frankly, if I were Apple, I'd be happier seeing the APIs Cycorder uses sneak in than the APIs that IVR is using as they really aren't ever going to change, whereas PhotoLibrary is pretty much just a backend library of the current Camera application and is almost certainly going to change).

Ahh well that affirms my belief that Apple will reject any video recording apps as they must have their own in waiting. It'll be one of the big 'features' of a major update no doubt.

I didn't know of Cycorder but have just tried it and it looks very promising - nice job :) The instant access after recording certainly makes a big difference and if you can get sound and email as an 'out option', I'm sold :D

i just recorded my town using Cycorder and it doesnt look to bad and i was actually impressed considering the iPhone 3G official doesnt have a videocamera on board

Iphone audio recorder

Does anyone know as to when the iphone recorder will b available for 2.0, it advertises it on the site, but i cant install it. I really liked this on 1.1.4 cuz it would record straight to the ringers and i cant find another audio recorder that does that.

um its already available.

Hi Saurik! Big fan, thanks for all your hard work writing all these great apps.

Say, is there something I need to enable in OSX to allow Netatalk to pop the iPhone up in Finder? I swear I've enabled and disabled everything in network and sharing options, but still no go. Anything critical you know of?

Again, thanks for all your hard work,
Pete
