I just found out that if your AppleTV is connected to a Bluetooth speaker, when you're in the AppleTV remote app, your iphone's volume rocker now controls the AppleTV's volume!

This is a great solution since there are no volume buttons in the Remote app.

This won't work if your AppleTV is using your TV's speakers since that would of course require an IR controller.

I always thought it would be perfect if the digital crown controlled the volume when using the Remote app on the Apple Watch. Though I guess the reason they don't allow it is that it would only work in setups where HDMI-CEC is working properly.

Nice though to see that it works for audio over bluetooth.

Maybe when they release an updated Remote App for AppleWatch. It would have to work for only connected speakers like it does for the iPhone volume rocker.

It would be great if Continuity were extended to AppleMusic on all devices. If AppleMusic is playing on AppleTV, your iPhone and AppleWatch would show it on now playing and allow you to control it. Turning the Crown would then adjust the volume.

This, exactly, is what I've been wanting for a long time - just some way of having a universal Now Playing option across my devices. Drives me nuts when I start airplaying music to my speakers from my phone, only to pick up my iPad an hour later and not be able to pause if I need to. I know some people wouldn't like that but having the option to turn that on would be sweet.

Do you know if the iPhone's volume buttons would work for Airplay speakers (as opposed to Bluetooth?)

Pretty sure the iPhone's volume buttons do work to control volume when playing via AirPlay.

He means, the iPhone volume rocker controlling AirPlay speakers connected to the AppleTV, not the iPhone.

Actually, my speaker is an AirPlay Speaker. It's a Harman Kardon Aura. It also works.

There are no touch screen volume controls. The new Remote App mirrors the Siri Remote but doesn't have volume controls because the volume on the Siri remote controls the TV via an IR signal which the iPhone doesn't have.

Yes, and that's what I said when I was replying. Unless you're saying the iPhone volume rocker is different than the iPhone volume buttons?

I know... I'm saying I'm glad they chose to use the physical buttons instead of on screen ones lol...

That is only true, if you have set your remote preferences in aTV Settings so. Otherwise it still controls aTV directly over bluetooth and aTV controls volume of connected TV set over HDMI-CEC.

This is what I was referring to in my original reply. In many setups you can adjust the TV or AVR volume using CEC (and not IR), I believe the Apple TV attempts this by default, and if it doesn't work it allows you to teach it using IR. I have 3 of the newer Apple TVs in my house, 2 of them are able to control volume using CEC, and one with IR. I'd love to be able to control the volume using the digital crown in those two instances (or the iPhone remote app) since IR isn't needed.
