iPhone vs. iPad 3G + a normal phone

I'll set the stage for you: I am currently on Verizon and have had the same Motorola RAZR (yeah, I know) for two years now. I am really banking on Apple announcing a Verizon iPhone this year at WWDC, shipping them in the fall. Then I thought... would it be cheaper/better to just get an iPad with 3G and keep my old phone? For mobile browsing needs, I could just pull out my iPad that I would keep in one of these. Plus, I wouldn't have to sign any contracts, and pay just $30 a month for unlimited data.
The only things preventing me from loving this idea are:
1. I really want ALL of my music in one portable device (iPhone). I use a 4gb iPod nano from way back when, and need an iPhone to carry all my music plus apps etc.
2. The convenience of having the all-in-one package that is the iPhone.

Let me know what you guys think! I apologize if there are other threads similar to this. I have only made a couple posts here on the forums. Please leave your flaming to yourselves.

As a fellow Verizon user, i decided to keep my cheap, out of contract, dataless smart phone (Treo 700p) and get the iPad to meet my mobile needs.

I do have a 32gb Touch that meets my portable apps & music needs right now, and have adjusted back to having a phone & pda to carry into places (i don't use the Palm for anything much on the PDA side since i got the Touch).

If i didn't have the Touch, i'd still be pondering the iPhone when/if it came to Verizon. Now i don't have too.....

I will be using all 3 things for very different reasons - so i can't see any of them going away at this point. The only "thing" i hope to loose is the messenger bag full of medical "stuff" that I carry into medical appointments for my kids.

Well, i'd like to find a smaller dumbphone that i liked and could text decently on, but this one is fine for now....

I would think you need an iPhone and a WiFi iPad....
But if you aren't sure - maybe just spend the $$$ on a tricked out iPhone - wait until the summer and see comes appears?
