iphone warranty question

Does the 1 year original warranty cover the iphone in a different country than it was purchased in? So if i bought it in the UK (UK iphone) and moved to the US and had problems with it that needed to be fixed by apple in the US.

Well I tried to have my phone serviced by the genius bar and they said they couldn't service it because the phone was locked to another carrier other than att.

You should call Apple Care on the phone and see what they say.
