iPhone Warranty

According to two reps at a Cingular store I visited Monday in Cary, N.C., the iPhone will be sold with no discounts over the advertised price and with no other incentives. I know some other folks have heard directly conflicting info from other Cingular types, so I take this with a grain of salt.

However, one other thing one of the reps said, and this was new to me:

"The iPhone will have no warranty. Not from Cingular, and not from Apple."

"WTF?" I asked him, "A rev. 1 product that will cost $500 or $600 clams, and NO warranty?"

"That's my understanding, sir," was his reply.

Anybody else hear anything about this? A quick forum search turned up more crap than I cared to poke through.

I wonder if they're going to offer insurance instead.

Don't believe a single thing you hear from in-store employees. Remember, these folks are at the bottom of the food and information chain, and know nothing. If you spend more than fifteen minutes researching any product they have, you already know more than they do.

Trust me, they don't know, and they really don't care, either. They make stuff up, or blow rumor chunks like the rest of us.

Next time, ask to see what company memo or training bulletin they got that horse puckey from.

And THAT is why people at Cingular/AT & T stores are full of it. No chance that any consumer electronics company, let alone Apple, would release a product without a warranty. My guess its that it will be along the lines of Apple's standard 1 year with maybe an extended AppleCare plan available.

Take everything those store reps say with a grain of salt - they know next to nothing about the iPhone.

What exactly is the warranty on this and is AppleCare available?
Also, is it true if the phone is in for repair, one can get a loaner for a fee? If so, what is the fee?

AppleCare for iPhone will be released in July for $69 and extends the hardware repair portion of the standard warranty by one year (2 years total coverage). You can repair it at a Apple Store, a AT&T store, or through the mail. You can see this on the iPhone page of the online Apple Store, doesnt say anything about loaners though.

I believe the loaner phone was mentioned in some ATT documents. They aren't going to loan you another iPhone though.

I was told by some people while waiting in line, you can also put the device on your home owners insurance, then your covered. Never thought or knew aything like that, but it does make some sense.

i thought i saw somehwere they'd give you an iphone service unit not sure if that is an actual iphone though

It is cheap to add it to your homeowners insurance. I have my MacBook pro insured that way for only a few bucks month. I also have AppleCare on it too though.

I was told from Apple store, 14 day return (10% restock fee), 1 year warranty, Applecare available in July for $70.

That makes sense... from the beginning, it has always been ATT is responsible for the network, Apple for the hardware. ATT inherited Apples 10%/14 day policy for the hardware (inspite for the 30 days to cancel the data plan)... so it would make sense the hardware would also have the typical Apple 1 year warranty.
