Hi,

I dropped my 1st gen iPhone in the sink and immediately did the old rice bag trick and left it over night to no joy. So I jumped on the net and did a bit of research but there's no definite answer for me problem.

When I took it out of the rice i tryed turning it on and just got an infinite boot loop. I plugged it in to my laptop and that went away, for now. But now it won't lock or unlock using the sleep/wake button. The only way I can turn it off is by holding the sleep/wake button and the home button or just letting it run out the battery.

My phone is out of warranty and I have no phone insurance. The contract runs out in October.

So is there a fix or should i just live with it till my contract expires and I can purchase the nice new shiny 3gs :). (i'm on o2 btw)

Cheers!

As you've discovered, water and electronic gear don't mix!
As your contract runs out in a few weeks, I'd wait 'till then and get a shiny new 3GS. You could get a refurb from Apple but personally, I'd wait.

You should have let it sit in the rice for longer. For at least 3 days. It prolly would have worked then, but since u turned it on. It's prolly broke

Doubt this would have made any difference as the unit was turned on before all the water was removed.

Oh and "prolly" isn't word. School is pointless if you don't pay attention. :)

Ebonics is not a real language. Using the word "probably", is only 2 letters more than your slang version. I see how it saves you so much time.....NOT. All it does is show your lack of education to the world. :)

Yeah, overnight in the rice bag is probably not long enough to dry it out. Everyone usually recommends 48-72 hours. By turning it on early, you may have done permanent damage. Still, it might be worth tossing it back in the rice bag for a couple of days and trying again.

If your contract is up soon, definitely wait and get the 3GS.
