Hey all.

Something strange happened to my iPhone 2G. I was in the car with a friend, and I plugged in an accessory that it declared incompatible, and then the phone just "died". I'm sure it's restorable, but anything I try won't work.

iTunes doesn't see it at all, nor do any of the PWNAGE tools etc.

And yes I've tried connecting it to my computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
ShiggyMiyamoto

It will not boot. At all.

Anyone? I really want to have my iPhone working until at least I get my Palm Pre in the next couple of weeks....

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my iPhone 2G.

Had to replace the motherboard/battery to get it working again.

I'm not sure which of the two went bad or if it was both or what.

But I bought a phone that worked but had a destroyed screen and but the motherboard and battery in my phone and it was good again.

Good luck. It was a pain.

...What the hell happened though? All I did was plug in the adapter for the car stereo thing into my iPhone to see if it could see its music directory etc, and then it just dies... it's been unbootable since yesterday evening...

I was under the impression that the battery wasn't user replaceable? How did you manage to replace the battery?

Also, I'd rather not spend money on it since I want to focus on getting a Sprint contract (Since my AT&T one is ending in about two-three weeks) and the Pre. I'm ready for something more fun and advanced for my liking. I like the iPhone/iTouch platform, but I hate AT&T and their anal charges. Sprint is awesome with its "Everything" plans for one price. Looks awesome.

Thanks for your reply. = )

Anyone else have any suggestions? I'd like to have my iPhone working since I'll be with a group of friends today in NYC and I want to be able to contact them in case we split up for any reason, and because I don't have a watch and my iPhone serves as my clock/watch.

ANYONE?!?!

lol.

Contact Apple and see if they'll help you. Contact the accessory manufacturer and tell them their equipment fried your phone. See what happens.

Probably your only option aside from taking your 2G to the Apple store and paying $199 for a refurb out of warranty replacement.

First off, my iPhone is indeed in warranty. I got AppleCare for it when I got it IIRC. I got my iPhone September 7th, 2007 or so.

Second, I'll be in NYC where there are several Apple stores tonight, and I'll see what they can do. I can't afford $199 right now, and when I can it'll be for a Palm Pre and for any opening fees when starting my Sprint contract. That'll be in about two weeks. I'd like to have my phone working until I can officially retire it in favor of the Pre.

Like I said in previous posts, my AT&T contract is ending, so I'm not obligated to renew if I don't want to, which I don't.

Also, I really don't think the accessory manufacturer can do anything... Apple is just going to tell me to do the same troubleshooting steps I've done for over an hour last night.

Thanks for the suggestions, but this is what I decided to do today.
