I'm really dumbfounded as to what some people must have been thinking when they bought their iPhone. They come on the forum and cry over "missing features" that were never promised, batteries that aren't user replaceable (come on, it's Apple design) and AT&T's service. I don't get it, do your research on products before you buy and you won't be so disappointed! The general consensus among reasonable people is that Apple delivered...pure and simple. If they add flash...great, Office for iPhone...awesome, but they never said it would (at launch) and that's the point. So know all the prospective buyers know what to expect and if you still buy an iPhone, I hope it's everything you wanted! I can't wait to get mine (bought my girlfriends first), it will simplify the stupid phone interfaces I've dealt with for years and actually sync with my Mac in way no other third-party phone has been able to! Of course, I'm not bashing people experiencing malfunctions or defects, that goes without saying, those are good things to know! I'm just venting, btw, there's just only so much I can't sit back and listen to!

iPhone...what were people expecting?

Well...
People assume that certain functionality will be present in any phone, and most especially in one that claims being a breakthrough device.
It's not like Apple went out of their way to make sure the user manual would be available ahead of time, or that lots of reviewers would have the phone to try it out and let everyone know what's missing.
There's not even any fine print on the TV screen ads, like, say, "incoming phone calls don't happen if you're actually surfing the web at the time".
A potential customer would basically have to spend most of their time cruising iPhone forums for weeks before they'd know what was missing and what's not... and even now new things are showing up.

I love my iphone, but this is the one thing that is really getting on my nerves. Seems like a call should trump any internet browsing, youtube, etc.
I started visiting this forum and a few others to read up on everything I could find on iPhone release day. I knew I wanted one after my boss showed up with one that night. STill I kept reading on all the features, watched the videos explaining the features and still waited till this past Wednesday before I made up my mind on actually buying one. Finally found one Friday and because I read up on what to expect, I knew what I was getting and I amvery happy. I don't miss my Treo650 and my Sprint service. This phone is doing everything I used my Treo for.
I have my email setup perfectly, I have my wifi working flawlessly while I am at home, and all my contacts transferred from my Treo.
Again, I got what I expected and I am happy.

I don't know what you're talking about. I've had calls interrupt my web browsing before! Are you sure this is accurate?

I forgot to try that, doesn't the iPhone get calls when connected to wi-fi, just not the edge network? Anyway, if there are bugs or oversights, I'm sure they'll be patched, that the benefit of the design using OSX and the touchscreen interface. Besides hardware, sky's the limit!

It's a known problem, if your calls are getting through than you have somehow lucked out.
Watch the January keynote again... Jobs: "An iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator." We got everything promised and more. Can improvements be made? Certainly! Does the iPhone even in its current form live up to the advance billing from Jobs and company? It sure does.
Hmm, I just tried it while surfing both on EDGE and on Wi-Fi, and both times the incoming phone calls popped up as they are supposed to and interrupted a web page that was actively loading in Safari. So it's working properly on my iPhone at least anyway.
Why do so many people come on here and say others are "crying" about the iPhone?
Nobody is crying...people are just giving their 2 cents.
I love my product...in fact, outside of just a few people on here, EVERYONE seems to love it.
But with that love comes some criticism and rightly so.
The product isn't perfect.
I come on this forum not for everyone to say how great it is...but to also hear the problems/solutions going on with the product AND to vent about any problems I have.
If some people are unable to hear anything not 100% Pro-Apple, they may not like the forum in the future because not every Apple product will be perfect.

A sensible person, even if they are 100% pro-apple, should realize that every product has its flaws, even (especially) if Apple made it.
The iPhone is a wonderful device, and a great first entry into the market for Apple, but if there wasn't room for improvement, they wouldn't have said we would be getting 2 years of updates for the software on the device.
Apple knows that it has flaws, and needs improvement in some areas, what else would they bring us through updates?
I got everything that I expected. I knew it was going to be a phone with few apps and some small software issues because it's the first phone with OS X. Actually, the phone has surpassed my expectations and I know it will only get better with software updates.
