Iphone WiFi only--No Plans, Is this Possible?

Hi,

I'm thinking of purchasing an iPhone to use only in Wifi hotspots (for now at least) to browse the web and make calls through Skype.

I understand that I would need to purchase the voice and data contracts initially but would like to cancel them and keep the phone. I also understand that I would have to pay an ETF of $175, right?

Has anyone done this and is this possible?
I would need to use an app to create a fake APN, or is this not necessary?

Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks.
 
can't you just get the new ipod touch for less $ and do what you want?
 
You would have to keep your plan for at least a month. You can then cancel and keep the phone and pay the 175 ETF. It's kind of an expensive ipod, but with a camera and gps. I understand what you are trying to do and it can be done. You will not need the fake apn since your iPhone will not have any service. This is why apple will not put a camera in the touch. Bastards.

Why would you bother with an iPhone when an IPT will do this ? :rolleyes:

OP didn't say he wanted camera or GPS ??

I think ATT has figured that out.

Read the fine print as their is an activation fee and a pro-rated fee in addition to the $175.00 cancellation fee.

Activation fee can be waived (mine was). Yeah, your first bill would be prorated fit about 8 days, and then the next full month. Your bill would be around $120. Plus cancellation of 165. You are looking at a minimum of $500. Is it really worth it?
 
I don't really see the point in this. The iPod Touch can do everything the iPhone can do, minus the camera and compass. Are those two features worth the ETF & prorated fees?

Personally I don't thinks so. It's just too much. Op you can get the iPhone and use it on Att without a data plan after your first month. Your bill will only be 40 plus tax.
