iPhone will intermittently only display battery percentage for one AirPod whilst in use

I have this recurring but intermittent issue where my iPhone 11 Pro will only show the battery percentage for one AirPod.

I am talking about when you long hold on the audio selector in the Control Centre, it should show, e.g. Battery: 87%, but will instead say Battery R: 87%.

Does anyone else experience this?
