My iphone screen is black and will not respond to any controls. I cannot shut it off via the power button either. When I plug it in to my computer, it syncs with it, but the screen remains black through the entire process. What can I do?

You can restore the phone through iTunes by clicking the restore button in your iPhone's page. You can also try a hard reset by holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button for about 10 seconds. The Apple logo should appear is the reset was successful. Try the hard reset first though. It takes less time.

What FCP said....I have had this happen twice now. Hard Reset fixed it both times.

Glad to hear that my advice helps and works, a restore may prevent these problems in the future. Hope this works for anybody else experiencing these problems.

I've never had to do a restore....and really don't want to because it scares the crap out of me. I just envision something going wrong. It's really silly, because with the exception of the two time that the screen wouldn't come on, I've never had an issue with my phone.
