Well when i tryed installing the 2.2 update it said there was an error then it wanted me to restore my phone and it wont even restore my phone i get an error saying "The Iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1016). Does anyone know why it would be doing this or how to fix it? Yes i am using vista and no i have never unlocked my phone.

I had the same problem with the 2.1 update. Althought the update process started but I got the error message. Finally I figured out that the downloaded firmware was corrupt I downloaded it again that solved the problem.

iPhone 2.2 Restore Crash

Same deal. I have iPhone 3G 8GB phone. WINXP. It crashed during the 2.2 update and can not be restored. Gives error 14 (unknown error). Will try downloading 2.2 again, but it appears like I am dead in the water. Tried many times to restore, reboot computer, etc. with no success.

Plug the phone into the computer.
Close itunes
Turn off iPhone.
Hold down the power and home button, and when the Apple logo appears, let go of the power button, but hold onto the home button.
Wait until iTunes opens up and says the phone is in DFU mode.

Then try restoring / upgrading.

Well this morning i called up tech support they walked me through some things and then they just told me to take it into the apple store and they gave me a new phone cause they got the same error messages and had no clue why it was doing that.
