Iphone with Bell - problem in sight

I just called Bell to have more information about their iphone coming up. And they told me that since I was already in a contract with them, I would have to pay full price for the iPhone !

Anyone got this info ??

That's pretty much standard with any wireless carrier. They're not going to give you subsidized pricing on one phone, when you haven't paid for the 1st one.

I understand your point, but knowing that Im going to trash 30$ bucks more per month with a data plan, they could have at least make some kind of deal....

Sometimes they will. You can try going through retentions and telling them you're going to switch to Rogers

Hey,
That is how Bell works and many other carriers. They get you to sign a contract for a reason. Though, if you want to get out of your contract, it is $20 for each month you have left. So if you signed a three year contract and you have a year left till it is up. Well that will be 12x20 = $240. I went through this when I was planning on getting a BB Storm because I never dreamed they'd be getting the iPhone. Though I never got it after so I hope I can get the iPhone . My contract isn't up until July 2010, so I may have to end up getting out of my contract to get an iPhone.

But yeah, just wanted to let you know how you can get out of your contract.

Only way to do it otherwise is to buy the phone outright... and you'd just be essentially putting your number on the other phone... I think getting out would be in your best interest depending on the time you have left in your contract.

Rogers gave me an upgrade price when I got my iPhone but it still cost. I wish the government would regulate these guys somehow. Everyone is tired of being ripped off.

They'll be able to have it, under certain conditions.

When the 3GS was released, or any iPhone for that matter, no one promised anyone that it would be coming to Bell. It was a kind of unexpected move, it was only rumors and speculation since Bell was building their new network.

Well for Bell "certain conditions" is "pay the full price of the phone"

And by waited I mean that I stayed with Bell even when it was available on another carrier. But now that they have, its almost like they don't want me to have it....

I have 25 months left with Bell. So I would hit the 400$ limit + 199$ for the iphone so it makes 600$ and I will need to take wathever crappy plan they will make. Right now, I pay 33$ all fees included for 200 minutes long distance call, night /week-end and the usual stuff witch I think, for Canada, is a pretty good deal. So for 100$ more, I could keep my plan and take any data plan without contract.

Oh well... but what is pissing me off is that I know that when my contract will end, they will offer me anything I want...

Wait - your complaint is that you actually had to exchange money for a product? God forbid our country allows basic economic principles... the government had better step in and outlet trading money for good and services immediately!

You are missing the point. I dont want to break my contract, I want to EXTEND it. I know they give me a 200$ credit for a crappy phone a year ago.

I would have expected them to say "Well you know what, since you are going to take another 3 years contract and that we are going to make alot of money from a data plan, well, just pay back the 200$ we gave you and pay the normal 199$ for the iPhone. This way, its a win-win situation, You get your phone, we get our money"
