iPhone with no sim card?

So after loosing my iPod touch, i got my moms old 1st gen iPhone. Im on Verizon will augest so i want to pretty much use it as just an iPod touch.

So if i reset the phone, am i going to be able to set it up like an iPod touch? or will there be some set up screens for the phone portion of it i wont be able to get past without signing onto att?


so whats the best way to make this phone, "mine"

Insert your mom's AT&T sim card and plug it into iTunes and click restore. It will activate the phone with ur moms sim, the. Just pop it out and give it back to ur mom. Everyone in a while u will get a message saying no sim card installed.

if u jailbreak it with blackra1n and then download blacksn0w from the blackra1n app any sim card will work. but u have to wait out ur contract cuz sim cards are gsm only, verizon uses cdma.

oh no ima use the iphone as an ipod

if verizon get an iphone ill get it, otherwise im gettin the newest one that comes out when my contract is up in august

But like any ATT sim card will work to get the phone past the activation thingy in iTunes when i restore?

Should be able to restore it without a sim card. Did this the other day with a 3G. It'll say NO SIM CARD but it goes away. The phone will be restored it just won't be activated which is fine.
