Rocketing through the sky!
Do you need to activate/subscribe with AT&T before you can use the other functions of the iPod?

My dad brought up a good point that since it uses WiFi and the like you could probably just use it as a PDA if you were so inclined. Apparently EDGE sucks anyway (dunno how good AT&T is, I'm in Canada (eh?)) and at least around here there are a lot of wifi hot spots.

You need to activate it before you can do ANYTHING with it.

Actually, you can call 911, but that's it :D

I'm in the middle of trying to decide how far I will let myself get locked into something and controlled.

- APPLE has you by the cahones by producing a product in traditional apple fashion that is designed so they totally control it down to even the ring tones you use.

- AT&T has you by the cahones in their contract at the price set specifically for this unit for 2 years.

At the current time I have an Ipod (ok, I have all of them) with whatever I want on it including video and audio media + games, and I have a phone on a plan at a price "I" want to pay. I have a laptop (12") that is small enough to keep with me without being a hindrance.

I understand the buzz of having it all in one package, and let's face it... it's the prettiest thing to come from apple to date. I don't like the amount of control that this product has over you. it has been designed to put apple in total control of the media on it. More so that ever before (we remember what it took to get music OFF an ipod before the hacks).

I've been waiting on this phone for months and now I am standing at the door feeling like I am going to jail. I see my freedom slipping away to manage my content the way I want and get it from WHERE I want to get it from and put WHAT I want on it.

Now I really hate buying something when it feels like a noose is dropping on my neck. Not from one place, but TWO.

I dunno.... I think I might hold off a month and see how the hacks go. :) Still love this thing though.......... tough call.
