so my question is

how great is the 1st gen iphone?
can i still download all the apps?
can it be updated, and if so once its updated does it have to get unlocked and everything again?!?!

please help me out guys

EDIT

Also what are the main problems with this gen? if any!

the first gen is a great phone, its just slower with a slower data connection, no mms among other things. You can still download apps, but you will have to rejailbreak your phone if you update it.

Yes you will have to unlock it as well. What software is the phone currently running. MMS does not work on the 2g iphone although there may be a hack to make it work, Im not sure though.

I am not sure? I think i am just going to get it and use it. see if i like it before going out and buying a bran new one. i was just going to see if i could update it to be like the newER one to save some $$$$$$$$

Yes, there is a hack to make MMS work on a 2G iPhone. Also, the data speeds on the 2G iPhone are painfully slow IMO, so you might want to make sure you will be in areas where there is plenty of wifi. The processing speed is far behind the newest iPhones, so don't expect to play any of the new games and maybe even some of the new apps without some lagging.
