Today my wife told me she can’t call me. She showed me on her iPhone trying to call me. She taps my name to place the call, the call starts and almost immediately hangs up without doing anything.

I checked her settings to make sure I wasn’t blocked or anything, nothing unusual there. I reset her network settings and did the hard reset. After that I tried to call myself on her phone. After about five seconds of nothing it said “user busy” and stopped the call. Now if I try to call myself on her phone it goes back to immediately hanging up the call.

I checked my phone and everything appears normal, I can even call her no problem. FaceTime audio calls work just fine between us also. She can make calls like normal to anyone else also.

Does anyone have any experience with this and what else can be done to fix the issue?

Try swapping the SIM cards. Beyond that I would suggest calling your cell provider.

I experienced this once, from my phone to one acquaintance. I couldn't call them, it failed every time. It resolved itself after turning my phone off and on again.

PS: I'm on AT&T, if it helps

We can text (iMessage) and FaceTime audio no problem. I can even call her no problem. She is telling me it is doing the same thing with someone else now. She is on T-Mobile and I’m on AT&T.

I have tried to research this a little more and have found very few instances and not really any solutions. I have tried taking out the SIM and putting it back, resetting network settings, and hard phone resets. Somewhere I saw that turning dial assist off may help but that didn’t work. We are going to try to make it to a T-Mobile store this weekend and see what the issue is.

We made it to a T-Mobile store today. It’s a long story but in the end we left without the issue being resolved.

At first we were explaining the situation to the employee and he said he could see what the problem was and we started some troubleshooting. After restarting the phone, removing the SIM, and deleting my contact information the problem stayed the same. He then took the SIM out again and put it into a store phone. The same problem with the store phone. This at least cleared it up to the cell network being the problem and not the phone itself. We then got a new SIM and put it in the same, same problem.

He then made a phone call to someone with more knowledge. I must say that the T-Mobile store employee was really nice and even put the phone on speakerphone so we could hear what the other person was saying. The man on the phone tried some more troubleshooting on the network side of things while we explained to him what was going on and what we have tried so far. He said that he has seen this before and that he should be able to work on it.

At this point we had kinda narrowed it down to my wife not being able to call AT&T numbers. We tried three different people all with AT&T and none of them would connect.

In the end the man on the phone said he tried everything he could right now but couldn’t resolve the issue. He told us he would call us back later this week with an update. The T-Mobile store employee told us that he couldn’t do anything else either but said he wished he knew what the outcome was because he hadn’t seen anything like it before.

Thanks for the update, please keep us posted.

We never actually heard back from anyone at T-Mobile but for the past four days the issue seems to be resolved. My wife has been able to consistently call myself and other AT&T phones. This was really strange to me and I’m glad things are back to normal.
