How do I do a restore?
Thanks.
Frank
Plug it into iTunes and hit "restore"
Humm,
I plugged it into the charger and it won't charge up.
I unplugged the connector from the charger cradle and it still won't start charging up.
I can't get it to show up on iTunes since it doesn't register via the usb.
Is there a way to "restart" it fresh from within the iPhone itself?
Frank
I went out to my car. The charger I have and have used for years, has a red indicator light when it is plugged into the charging receptacle. When I plug it into the iPhone the indicator usually turns green, and I get the distinct sound and the screen on the iphone with the charging indicator bar. When I plugged it in tonite, the indicator turned green, but I received no sound nor screen. Just a blank screen.
I can receive calls, and I can receive texts, but the Home button is basically dead and I get no indication of it is charging, and it doesn't link up w iTunes.
I have iTunes 9.1 also.
Thoughts.

>>I think you should try the hard reset that I suggested above.<<
I did that and I now have a screen with a usb cable an arrow pointing up to an iTunes logo!! NEVER saw that one before.
I probably should have updated my iphone when my contract expired. Not like I wasn't going to stay w an iPhone. I love the thing. <g>
We're at our daughter's for Easter and she suggested going to the Apple store tomorrow, Saturday 3 Apr 10. I told her it may well be the WRONG day to go since the iPad is being introduced and I bet the place will be a packed.
BTW, what is a digitizer.
AND I can hold in the top button only, close out the iPhone, restart it, get my Home Page screen and pick only one app to do. Since the Home Button won't work, I can't switch applications unless I shut down and basically "cold" reboot the iPhone.
Guess I have a real reason to buy another <g>.

iTunes 9.1 doesn't seem to "see it."

The dock connector and the home button are on the same ribbon cable, that would explain the dock connector and the home button not working. You can buy replacements online but before you do that you may want to open your iPhone and check that it's not just a loose connection.
No offense to the OP or anything, but he's having trouble restoring a phone and you're telling him to OPEN it?
You said you've had it for 2.5 years, so I'm assuming it's the 2G? Those are a hassle to open up. Don't even bother.
