why won't my iPhone 5 ring? I think sound settings are correct but it doesn't ring, i miss calls and get voicemails instead. Is there something i'm missing?

Do you have the side switch set to silent? Do you have Do Not Disturb enabled? Do you have the ringer volume up and a working ringtone selected (perhaps try different ringtones) and/or vibrate on ring enabled? Have you tried restarting your phone and/or resetting settings if none of those other items apply or work?

No to most of that, but i think you hit it on the nose with the "do not disturb". I didn't realize it was set to manual so that it would be silent when the phone is locked. thanks.

Ah, yeah, that's often the culprit. The trick with that is to keep an eye out for a crescent moon icon appearing in the status bar on top, usually close to the battery (if it's there, then Do Not Disturb is enabled at least when the phone is locked, and potentially when it's unlocked, depending on the options that were set).
