My wife’s iPhone X won’t power on. Tried charging it. Resetting. Plugging into the computer.

None of the Apple stores around me have any genius availability this week. Would a Best Buy authorized service center have refurbs to swap it out under AppleCare? Or are they just going to mail it out for 5 days, as I could do myself?

Terrible timing to have a problem with an Apple device after the new releases.

I wish I could just do an express replacement but I don’t believe I have $1,000 for a hold on any credit card.

I would avoid taking it to Best Buy. Make a genius appointment and hang on. Best Buy will likely send your phone out and the wait in the long run will probably leave you without the phone even longer than if you took it direct to Apple.

Last year 2 days before Thanksgiving, I dropped a 6 plus in the bath tub. I tried to make a appointment at the Genius Bar but they had no openings for 2 weeks. I just decided I would go to Apple store and try in person to get my phone replaced, even if I had to wait a few hours. When I got to Apple, I explained what had happened and that I couldn’t be without a working phone. I also explained I’d wait a few hours if necessary. I was super nice and apologetic about not having an appointment, but said I was desperate, as I had no phone line at home either.
They worked me in between appointments if I was willing to wait. I’d suggest trying that. If you are kind and willing to wait, you might get lucky. You have nothing to lose by trying. Hope it works, try it maybe.
Good luck..

Nothing like good ol' human interaction to solve problems :). Bravo!

Just an update to say I got the phone replaced at an Apple Store.

I was also able snag a Series 4 watch in stock.

Man I hate the Apple Store though. It’s just always pure chaos and there’s no rhyme or reason to how or when you get helped. The people are helpful, but too busy.

I had an appointment to pick up my watch, but it took them well over an hour to find my paid order, even with pickup confirmation emails etc. The guy that was helping me was constantly pulled away to help other people. If I wasn’t ALSO waiting to get an iPhone fixed, I would’ve been extremely annoyed.

All Apple Stores are pretty much the same. I try to get to my local Apple Store during the week before or just after the lunch hour. That's when they're least busy. Don't even try going to one on a Friday evening or Saturday afternoon.
