Hey guys-
After much deliberation, I just picked up the iPhone and a new AT&T plan. Most people I talk to use verizon, but I have really been wanting this phone. My question is this- does anyone carry 2 phones on a regular basis? How much of a hassle is it? Taking out cost as a factor, I would just like to hear from people who carry 2 phones on a regular basis while I consider doing so.

Out of curiosity, why are you considering two phones? Would it really be cheaper to carry a Verizon phone in addition to the iPhone, or would it be cheaper to just get more minutes (if necessary) for the iPhone? I'm truly curious.

Some people use phones just for calling, and another phone for texting. I think carrying 2 phones is dumb, and isn't worth the extra money it costs a month.

I used to carry my phone and a zune around. Closest situation i've been in compared to this, and i couldn't stand that. Just more stuff to worry about.

I carry two phones, but only because I am waiting for my Sprint contract to end. I rarely use it and it usually dead at the bottom of my purse.
My iPhone has definitely made my old cell a thing of the past.

My company phone is Verizon and the contract doesn't run out until the end of this year.

I held off buying a iPhone until my iPod died, Once it did I had a choice. Buy a Ipod Touch for $400 bucks or spend the same amount for a iPhone and suck up the contract.

I chose the iPhone because my wife and 3 kids were already on att from the time my last company I worked for used them. It cost me an extra $10 bucks a month for the line and $20 bucks for internet service.

In short I am glad i did. Its great having access to both companies members free. Plus having internet anywhere with the iPhone rocks.

Do it.

BlackBerry

I carry a BlackBerry for access to Company emails and internal webapps/intranet. And I carry an iPhone for personal stuff. I also carry a Canon G7 10 mpix camera when I'm out walking. On longer trips I disconnect my iPod classic from the car and put it in my bag as well because that's got practically all of the music I possess on it.

The iPhone needs to increase its storage [and megapixels from the camera] at least tenfold before I can start travelling light!

One day...

Well most people I talk to on a regular basis are in the midst of a verizon contract. I am at the tail end (month left), but was going to renew for a year (part of a family plan, so $10/mo) just to be able to save those people a few $ in terms of speaking with me, but use the iPhone for everything else and just keep a smaller contract.

You're not obligated to save other people money. If you want the iphone, get it and use just that!

Well for people I care about and have less money than me (ie girlfriend, parents) I would like to save them money if I can afford it. I really didnt want this to turn into a cost issue. Im looking more for just peoples experiences with carrying multiple devices, and whether or not they think it is worth. And while I would rather go with your sentiment, thats not an option at this time.

well i'm gonna have a sidekick and a iphone, so for me it's worth it, texting on the iphone gets annoying to me, and it still don't have mms, so i got a SideKick with just a data plan and my iphone for everything else.:D

It would seem to me like carrying two phones would be a pain. Although I guess it is like carrying a phone and an iPod.

Isn't that part of why you want the iPhone - to get down to one device?

Trust me it doesn't work.

Unless if they are synced together you will endup using more of one than the other to the point of one begining to gather dust.

Saving other people money is honorable and all but not a good enough reason to have two cell contracts.

Its a huge hassle and really not worth it at all, Your doubling the amount of space lost to the phone and there is no way to have two phones on your belt without being inconvenienced and no way to keep em both in your pocket.

You should still be under iPhone return waranty time and Verizon is about to run out.

I say choose. In the end I was happier for it.

I have two iPhones and two phone numbers of course. I wanted two numbers for various reasons and sometimes I will carry both phones in my jacket pocket, not really that inconvenient. I have different music on each. Other times, I just bring one phone with me and set the other phone to forward calls to the phone I have with me. That may be an idea for you there.

I carry 2. One is my business phone on verizon (razr) and my iPhone. The only time its a hassle is when they both ring at the same time. Other than that its not bad, its not like they are 4 pounds each.

Why not set up call forwarding on the Verizion phone? This way the people you need so save money can still call that number but it rings on your iPhone. You will end up spending double minutes (your Verizion minutes and your AT&T minutes will be used when someone calls your Verizion number) but this way you would only have to carry one phone.

Yea I actually just started doing that tonight. Its working out well. And I can use vtext.com to send texts and if replied to correctly, receive texts to. Good thought, thanks very much for sharing.
Thanks to everyone else who pitched in as well, I appreciate all the opinions.

I carry a Verizon Treo 700WX and an iPhone and on some occasions an HTC Kaiser as well. I keep my Verizon phone because many of the people I communicate with are on Verizon. I also keep it due to the EVDO speeds that Verizon provides. I bought the iPhone because I love the interface and truly believe it is the best phone interface I have ever used. I also wanted a better browsing experience so the iPhone was a clear choice.

I carry the HTC Kaiser and use it on the AT&T network with my iPhone sim card on occasion because there are some applications that I use that require 3rd party support. And I can appreciate the 3G speeds. I also use it as a true GPS with tomtom software installed.

So carrying multiple phones is not that much of a hassle for me.

I carry a Nextel for work and my iPhone. I want to give up the Nextel, since everyone calls me on my iPhone anyway.

I doubt I would carry two personal phones though...

With the iPhone you can call without wasting other people minutes during nights and weekends.
All my friends have Verizon family plans and they never run out of minutes, because they are always talking with a Verizon subscriber.
With my iPhone I started with the 450 min plan, and I was running out of minutes because I was looking for a job and made / received many calls, and what I did was to change my iPhone plan to the 900 min.
One good thing from AT&T is the rollover, so you'll be banking minutes.
Most of my friends want an iPhone now, but they are still stuck to their Verizon contracts.

Like it didn't take until the SideKick 3 for SideKicks to get MMS. ;)

I carry a work-issued BlackBerry and my iPhone. The BB went from being my main phone to just a device I use for corp email. I forward all voice calls from the BB to my iPhone.

Hi all! New here to the MacRumors boards. :)

I am a new iPhone user who is forwarding calls from my Verizon personal/business line to the iPhone. Works great except that if I don't answer the forwarded call, it goes to my work voicemail instead of my personal voicemail. Maybe I am asking for the world here but I wonder if there is a way to make those calls revert back to the original #s voicemail?

If only the iPhone support two phone numbers. That would be awesome.

Thanks in advance for the help.

So whats the best answer to having iPhone as 2nd line worth it

So if your stuck with a verizon line and the possibility to get an iPhone, is the best answer to have everything forwarded to your iPhone?

I have verizon and am also getting an iPhone or upgrading my verizon line to the android. I'd rather just get the iPhone and also have the verizon line and am trying to see if having two different lines is worth it. My company is covering the 2nd line and thats why I love the idea of getting the phone of my dreams, the iPhone.

What do you guys think? I didnt even think about the possibility of forwarding calls from verizon. Will that forward texts as well?

What is everyones thoughts? BA - What did you end up doing and has it worked out well? Id love to hear about your experience with having the iPhone as well as verizon and the best strategy for that -

A few years ago I owned both an iPhone for personal use, and I had a company issued Palm Treo. Personally, it was very annoying when I was out and I had two phone's on me. The Palm was very bulky (especially in comparison to the iPhone). At first I thought it was "cool" to have two phone's, but like others have mentioned prior, it started to get old, and since I had to have my work phone on me at all times, I started to not bring my iPhone with me, and just use the Treo for my means of communication (both personal and business). I much rather prefer having one phone. Although I do carry my iPhone and iPod Classic with me now. But I would avoid having two phone's at all costs. But if it works for you, then great.
