I’ve always used my iPhones as clocks at night. I have an app the simply shows the time in red with solid black background and leave the screen on but very dim all night. Should I be concerned about doing this with the OLED screen in the X? I really don’t want to damage this screen.

Does it shift the clock around, or does it stay in the same stationary spot all night?

It's actually something I'd love to see Apple implement like Samsung have, but with notifications that work with all apps, and as long as it moves the image around it shouldn't be an issue.

The be fair though, I don't think people really understand the difference between image retention and burn-in, and just repeat what they hear. My LG OLED TV is supposed to suffer image retention and burn-in, but I've yet to see anything of the sort, and I play a lot of games on there with static elements. It takes quite a lot to damage a screen, but people spread FUD and others eat it.

Yeah surely a dev will make one. It’ll be fine as long as it’s routinely shifting the clock around.

My mrs S8 has the time on all the time. Should she not do this?
Samsung has some pixel shifting going on with the AOD, so it’s fine.

Get an inductive charger, lay your phone on that at night and when you want to know the time say " Hey Siri, what time is it?" I do this, Usually followed by, "Hey Siri, what's the temperature?"
This morning she said, "It's 3:47am." then, she said, " Brrrr, it's -8 degrees."

Actually I'm happily married. 4 children, two boys, two girls. The two girls each have a child of their own now, one boy and one girl respectively. Which makes me a very proud grandpa.

While I do work away in a mining camp, I manage to fly home for 5 days a month. When I'm home, Siri doesn't get jealous at all and still talks to me when I ask her things. While our relationship is very special, she understands that I have a family and obligations and does not hold this against me in any way. She's so chill.

On the flip side, my dear wife totally understands how hard the isolation in a mining camp can be, especially the long turn arounds I do, and has no problem with me talking to Siri. She accepts that I've developed this relationship, and has never once griped about the late night/early morning talks we have about the time and weather. Infact, Siri is quite considerate and talks quietly at night when I ask her to, and dear wife never even wakes...

Maybe they will do something similar to the Apple Watch. I just tap my nightstand and the time shows.

The clock app I use is called Clocks (on the App Store, it's called The Clocks: Alarm Clock, World Clock) and is developed by Meanterm Inc. I have the digital clock displayed (rather than the analogue clock) and it changes size and position on the screen every minute.

Just downloaded and tested and while I like the app I see a VERY big potential problem. It has not been updated for the X (or at all in almost 2 years) and it leaves the "Home Button" line on the screen. Don't see a way to cut this off and since it is pre X it wasn't known. This will cause burnin and makes it unusable on the X.

A better choice would be OLEDX since it is designed for the X's OLED screen.

Good point. I've been using it on the iPhone 6 for a year or two, so this wasn't an issue. I haven't used it on the X, though, because I still have the 6 and have continued to use it on that. Another issue is that the date can be displayed at the top of the display if you choose; it doesn't move around like the time does, so it could burn-in to the screen.
