iPhone X iPhone X audio out lower than iPod

I have a REVO SuperRadio, and it has a IN jack that I'm using with iPod classic and dock station
Output volume is about the same I use on streaming radio

- 12 is a good volume level ( not loud ) on internet streaming radio
- 12 is a good volume level ( not loud ) on DAB
- 12 is a good volume level ( not loud ) on iPod
- 24 is a good volume level ( not loud ) on iPhone X connected via audio adapter on the IN jack ( the same I use for iPod )

not sure why I need to raise the volume so much
I'm using the iPhone to stream Amazon music
