I’ve had my X only for a month and I am already seeing a hairline scratches on the back when viewing under light. What’s more, phone has always been in a silicone case. Bummer. :(

Yep same with mine, the back is an absolute scratch magnet.

Well that’s unfortunate. “Most durable glass ever” but gets scratched inside a case.

Yep and I even take it out of the case once a week to clean the back and inside the case and it’s amazing no matter how well I take care of my iPhone it’s scratched.

Glass can scratch easier over than 7000 series aluminum on the previous iPhone models. Also, keep in mind that if your silicone case has trapped debris inside, that likely is a major problem where it is contributing to scratching the glass, I would try to clean it regularly if you can.

My silver band scratches easily but I can't find any scratches on the glass back of my iPhone. I've got mine in an Apple leather case that has a felt lining--I've heard that stabilizes particles that may enter the case. I'm not sure if that's true.

Please stop complaining about scratches, even if the back was made from diamond, it would still scratch eventually,
and having a case on it makes it scratch faster, all the crap in your pants gets between the phone and case, and scratch the S**T out of it :)

I you take a brand spanking new iPhone out of the box, clean the surface with a soft cloth, and hold it in the sun, you will see ring shaped scratches, the sun amplifies the scratches you never see in normal light.

Funny enough, the back of my iPhone 8 Plus is in pristine condition, the front however has got some scratches only I know about.

Scratches are inevitable if you don’t protect against them.
If you want to keep it nice and scratch free but don’t want a case, use a skin. It won’t protect against drops but it will stop scratching and if applied properly you’d barley know it was there.

That said, I’m coming up for a year on mine (got it at release). I haven’t used any cases or skins, been nakit the entire time - the phone not me, I’ve been nakit less :D
And the back of my X has surprisingly held up better than the front. Even though I always lay it on its back when I put it down. Go figure.

My X is in perfect condition since December. After switching from Incase a few years back to Rhinoshield, I have had zero issues with my devices getting scratched. I do not have any protective film on the back or front. And I carry two iPhone's due to work and both are protected by the Rhinoshield brand.

I put a plastic film on the back of my iPhone 8+ under the case to protect it from day 1.

I know this is obvious, but in many respects, phones are meant to be scratched and Not kept in pristine condition. That’s just the nature of something that we use every single day in different environments. The Glass is a non-issue on the back for me scratching, I would be more concerned about scratches on my display over anything, not to mention, we don’t really see much of the backs of our phones as it is because it’s in a case anyways.

I see the back everyday and touch it as well. I use a bumper case.
