iPhone X - Button to wake working intermittently

When I press the right button to wake the phone, it works only half the time. If I press the button once, the screen doesn’t turn on…so I press it again & no matter how long I wait from the first press, it automatically activates Apple Pay (as if registering a double click.)


Anybody else experiencing this? Wondering if this is a hardware or software issue. I have the latest IOS installed, 11.1.2.

I just raise mine to wake or tap the screen--bingo it sees me and opens

The screen tap is a good tip -- i didn't know you could do that to wake the phone.

Still, I want to make sure other people are experiencing this? If this is a HW issue, I will need to get it swapped.

I will say this issue happens closer to 80% of the time. My screen doesn't wake from 1 press of the right button.

I have restarted my phone to no avail.

Does the button always work when turning the screen off?

If it's a hardware issue, turning the screen off would have the same problem.

Yes it seems to turn off every time I click the button. That what's I was thinking -- that it's a software issue. Just wondering why I'm not hearing anybody else complaining about it. Restarting doesn't fix the issue, and the phone is essentially brand new with nothing much installed on it. Hopefully IOS 11.2 fixes this issue.

you have to turn off double click side button in settings/wallet and apple pay

Just tried that...doesn't fix it. One press and more than half the time, the screen doesn't turn on, even with that setting turned off.

No, I don’t have that issue.

I almost always use tap to wake, but when I do use the side button, it works with one click.
