I purchased an iPhone X two months ago and suddenly yesterday, when I clicked on messages, the screen is just white. The word "messages" appears at the top - but the whole screen is blank. I talked with an Apple rep yesterday and the only thing they could suggest is doing a back up and re-set, basically starting from scratch. At first I was told they never heard of this, but as the rep was doing research, it turns out other people had the same problem going back a few months. I was told as of right now, they're working on it and an update will probably be out to fix the problem - one they find out what the problem is. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem - and if there's something else that can be done - other than wiping everything out and starting all over again?

I’m one of them. Engineering is still working on a fix. I’m fed up. 8 plus, no texts since December.

Don't pretend to be an expert, but if you have your stuff backed up to the cloud or elsewhere, going for the complete reset would seem to be the way to go. After you boot up again, restore from your backup. IF you problem is a glitch in the iOS, I would think this would fix it. I've had the X from day one with all the latest updates and have never had this text problem.

Been there done that. No joy.

Apple Store and get a replacement. Life's too short to put up with this BS.

Go to where ever you got the phone and ask for a replacement under the 1 year warrenty. Or go directly to an Apple Store.

They won’t do it. Known software issue waiting for a fix.

I don't get that! I have an X that doesn't do what yours seems to be doing. I assume we both have the same software. FLASH! It must be HARDWARE Apple!!!

Can it send as an sms?

My niece had a similar issue and it ended up being a carrier issue.

Anyway you can pop your sim out of the X and into another phone to see if you get messages?

After a sim replacement and the CSR changing the phone on file to Samsung then back to an iPhone the problem was resolved.

I am having basically the same issue. I will receive either an sms text or imessage. It will pop up on the screen and if I pull down the notification screen they are there. However open the message app and if I have deleted all my messages they are not there. Nothing it. Or also will show the blue dot for a new message in the app but going into it nothing is new.
I have turned off imessage and back on. Signed out and signed back in to imessage. Restarted the phone. I really do not want to reset network settings or clear out the phone to default.
Really did not have any issues until 11.3.

I have an 8plus. It’s happening on all gens of phones.

I was told there about 200 affected. I think that’s why it’s taking so long to fix. Not enough of us.

Talked to my Apple person today. He told me work around is to sign out of iCloud, restore the phone as new and start all over. I now have texting. No old messages on the phone but at least it works.

This issue still exists for me today even after 11.4 update. If I delete all my texts and there is nothing in messages but then someone sends me a message later or twitter text it will show on the icon the number of messages I have. Then if you pull down the notification from the top left it shows the messages. However open up the messages app and nothing but a white screen. It isn't always consistent but more so than less.
There has to be a fix and cant be a phone hardware issue I wouldn't think. I have tried restarts. Airplane mode. Killing imessage and then signing back in.
In order to see the new message I have to either kill the app and re-open or press and hold on the messages icon to make a new message but then back off of it and they are there.
Also sometimes having the blue dot next to new messages stick after I have seen and clicked on the message. Of course still random out of order in the message list not in the messages string themselves.

Never had these issues since the Iphone 5.

Any other ideas?

[doublepost=1529576907][/doublepost]I had to get a replacement, which was still under warranty. I tried doing the total reboot with no success, so after many hours of going back and forth with Apple, come to find out I could just get a replacement - which is what I did.

I spent about 30 minutes with an online chat with apple this morning. He basically wanted me to do everything we would normally do so now he set up an appointment for me to go into the apple store next week. We shall see.
Has the replacement been good or to soon to tell?

[doublepost=1529584614][/doublepost]Yes - so far so good. I’m just not crazy about the X - actually liked my 6 plus better. Good luck - hopefully Apple will get you back up and running!

Well cause I am at work and had the time. I completely wiped my phone to factory and it is in the process re-downloading all the apps. Low and behold the same issue happened right away and I screen shot all the screens so I can show the store next week. So wasted my time with that process but hopefully this will cover what they wanted to do.

Last night was still frustrated with the phone since it happened after the reset and back up from icloud. I went into the local Apple store and discussed the issue with them. Had a good employee that definitely seemed interested in helping me. Did all the normal routine items. Analytic test. Saw that I had done the wipe/reset in the morning. Also did a text and imessage test and it worked fine go figure. He advised he could not replace the phone until we did a solid wipe and start as new and then also maybe work with Apple directly to do a system analytics via the internet with them on my phone.
So I had them wipe the phone and we began as new. Did another test of text/imessage and it worked. So set off for home and spent over two hours re-setting everything up.
Since then the phone seems quicker but have had the same issue happen once since. Hoping it is better from here on out but I have my concerns. Thanks for reading.

[doublepost=1529671655][/doublepost]If it happens again, I would strongly opt for the phone replacement. It took many calls and hours and hours of aggravation before I finally said enough! I did everything I was supposed to do - I paid over $1200 for a whole phone - not 70% or 80% of a phone. It’s not my responsibility to get this phone working - it’s theirs. At that point they agreed to send me a new phone. See how it goes- if it happens again- be a squeaky wheel - always gets the grease! Good luck!

Thank you for that. If it does it again I will be going back and pushing cause there literally is nothing left to do. Same ole though as it is a "software" issue not hardware. Hoping the best for you and the new phone.

6/23/18 update. This morning had the same thing happen yet again. Did another chat on Apple support. The first rep moved me to another senior adviser and he then escalated me to a call from another senior adviser. Spoke with him on the phone a few minutes ago and he took ownership of the issue and sent me a link to send them screen shots which will be sent to engineers and they they look at it and send him feedback back then will schedule another call back to see what to do.
So basically I am stuck until they determine next steps.. this sucks.

Final update I hope on this topic. Apologize for all the posts but was so tired of not having the issue fixed. I still had an appointment at Apple so I went in. The employee saw that everything had been attempted so he said the only thing left was to replace my phone. Alas finally. Set it up as new to that was a fun evening last night but it is all set up and so far so good and the phone is faster and did not even get really warm during the process. It is smooth and I am happy. Hoping from here on out it is good to go.
