Alright,

So no, I haven't experienced burn-in yet, but I guess using the cardboard mode on an iPhone x in the Youtube app will absolutely cause this. Why?

Because the interface elements (back arrow, settings cog and home bar) are permanently on your screen and do not dissapear when playing a video. So just a PSA.
