I’ve got an iPhone X and I’ve cracked the back. Ultimately, I’ll need to turn this back in to my carrier (Sprint).

To replace the glass back of an iPhone X is to replace the iPhone X completely (at the cost of $549).

So I’m wondering:
1) when the new iPhones come out, will that $549 cost be lowered?
2) is it possible my carrier will charge me less (or more?)
3) is there another alternative to Apple replacing the back?

I never bought Apple care, so the “real penalty” of all of this is $251 (from $199 for Apple care + $99 for other damage)

Can AppleCare+ be purchased after the first 60days of the iPhone purchase?

No, 60 days after purchase your ability to get AppleCare+ has expired.

There are options to purchase a replacement back from 3rd party suppliers to perform the repair by yourself but, it looks to be a pain due to the amount of adhesive used and the fact that the camera ring/lense needs to by pried off so the glass can be replaced. YouTube has videos that show the process

1. No. Out of warranty repairs have always been priced at about 50% of the device launch price.

2. Sure.

3. Yes. Shops can do a rear glass replacement by fully disassembling the phone, scraping off the glass back, and gluing on a new piece. The labor would be about $200. This is not something you can do yourself.

OP, do _not_use third-party repair for something like this type of damage, if you have the financial means, have Apple repair it for you by OEM parts and service, as there have been other members who have had horrible experiences with third-party retailer’s making repairs like these.
