Klutzy me dropped my X this morning and it apparently landed on the top left corner. :-( Unfortunately, some of the mini-jellyfish with glowing hearts that make the OLED screen work seem to have taken some damage/been killed:

I'm about to go on a trip so for those who know anything about OLEDs--will the damage spread, or remain contained to this area?

Going forward, not sure what to do. If damage remains as-is, might be able to live with it. Or, I'll use as an excuse to downgrade to Product RED iPhone 8 (don't like the X much, paid cash for it (on ATT Next), and never got Apple Care).

Thanks!

The damage won't spread, it's not like a disease. Your drop just broke the pixels in the corner. However, if the glass is damaged, cracks might spread, and those might affect other pixels over time.

Going forward, what to do: have it repaired "out of warranty" (as you have no Apple Care).

it'll cost you $279,-, but you'll have a working X.

Thanks! Good to know the damage won't spread. The glass itself is not damaged, only the internal OLED components, apparently. And don't have AC, unfortunately (I'm a dummy) so have made a Genius appt to get screen replaced per out-of-warranty fee.
