This may be useful info for other new iPhone X owners. I have my iPhone X in a Spigen Thin Fit case, and I have a rectangular magnetic plate (for my magnetic car mount) between the phone and the case. The magnetic plate is inserted horizontally (not vertically as usual) and as far low as it will go, so it doesn't cover the center of the glass back where the iPhone X has its internal Qi charging coil.

I bought a 3-coil Qi Charger Stand on Amazon for $20, and it charges my phone perfectly with the case and magnetic plate. I can't feel it getting any warmer with or with the magnetic plate.

i just tested a typical circle magnetic backing and QI charging works fine. I don't know if it gets too hot as I have not tested yet, but seems to work without issue.

the location of the magnet matters but it doesn't have to be in some crazy awkward place to work

Anyway u can post picture of how it looks?
Here you go. First picture shows the charging plate upside-down ("Attention!!!" printed on it). The gray area on the case is approximately where the iPhone X's internal Qi charging coil is, so I put the plate as low as it will go to get it out of this area. The second picture is the phone charging on the Qi stand. It charges surprisingly fast.

Here is the picture from ifixit teardown showing the location of the wireless charging coil. Based on that, it does make sense to keep your magnetic plate placed low. You could probably place it really high too if you needed to. Just don't put it dead center.

OK so have tried various things to make this work and i don't like them.

I tried the Spigen Thin Fit case with the magnet at the bottom but i find it sticks out too much.

Now i am not saying what i have come up with is perfect its not (the cut is not good enough in my opinion and i will probably try again)..

I brought:

  • Magnet (40 mm) £4
  • 40 mm drill bit from Amazon £5
  • case from ebay £1 (i actually brought 3 as i knew i would break them when testing the drilling)
  • protective screen from eBay £1 so that i did not have to stick magnet to glass

Drilled a hole in cheap case, insert magnet and stick on to protective screen. This works perfectly including wireless charging.

I am sure you can do it cheaper and better if you have the correct tools.

Its a shame that some bright spark does not bring out a case with just a big hole cut out as i am sure they would sell loads!

Anyway I am happy until the Presidio MOUNT iPhone X Case comes out!

Photos attached in case it helps someone out.
