i have both an iPhone X and an iPhone 8, both linked to the same iCloud/Apple account. When one of the phones ring the other also rings so I can answer on either, that is not a problem. However, is there any way of telling which of the two actual numbers the caller actually called. I am sure there is an easy answer to this, just cannot see it.

It is simple.

Underneath the number you will either see the location (United States, for example), or you will see "From your iPhone".

If you see a location, that device is being called. If you see "From your iPhone", your other device is being called and transferred to that one.

Thank you for clearing that up.
