I'm currently on the iUP with AT&T, however I'd like to switch over to Verizon when I get the iPhone X. Is there a way to do that and still be able to preorder iPhone X for launch day?

When I select Verizon as a carrier, it asks for my account credentials, of which I obviously have none. If I preorder as an AT&T customer, then I won't get a CDMA-capable unit. It also doesn't appear that SIM free models are available under iUP; at least they're not for iPhone 8 atm.

So...how exactly do I have the "freedom to switch carriers" that Apple promises with iUP?

Can you do that? Tried that on their website but they require you to purchase or already have a compatible device. If they'll do it over the phone without a device I suppose I'll try tomorrow

How long does it take from switching carriers to iup getting the correct info and allowing the update/verifying new account?

I talked to apple about this because I was planning the same. So what happens is when you buy iUP under ATT. Later down the line, you just have to walk into apple talk to the specialist and tell them you want to move to Verizon. They'll swap you out for a Verizon phone and take the money that you've paid for ATT iUP and move it to your Verizon iUP plan. That's the beauty of that Apple payment plan.

I was trying to do this last night but the site crashed. Instead I just used a friends Verizon Account.
Now I have to figure out how to not activate it when I pick up my phone in-store.

I’d love to see if someone has successfully done this?! I also want to switch over to verizon at some point. When I talked you apple they weren’t sure about this. I want to make sure that when the switch is made that we don’t lose out on anything (money, upgrade date etc)!

It's stated on their website and I'm sure they'll abide by it... And the rep sounded like she knew saying it was a 1 stop by visiting Apple to ask for the switch (if supplies are available) they'll give you the Verizon (cdma/gsm) phone so you can do the Bring your own device to Verizon.

Works with your carrier.
You’re buying directly from Apple. Which means no more financing your iPhone through your carrier or committing to a multiyear service contract. Your new iPhone will work with your carrier, so you won’t have to make any changes to your rate plan. And if you ever decide to switch carriers after you activate your iPhone with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon, you can easily do that, too.3

3-AT&T and T-Mobile customers may need to visit an Apple Store to switch carriers. See a Specialist for details.

Keep in mind that your friend will need to be with you when you pick up the phone or will need to add you to his Verizon account. Even if you’re paying for the phone the account holder or an authorized user needs to be present.
