Given that it has been discontinued, do you think that this reduces the chance that it will be reduced in price? Alongside the 3 that were announced yesterday, the X is the one that would suit me most, but not at >$999.

Could there be any other downsides to getting an X? Even though it has been discontinued, this doesn't mean the support etc. ceases, rather they just stop making it.

I am interested in this too...
Seems like the only option to me; XR is too big and inferior in quality, XS is ludicrously expensive and, well, if one is getting the xs max one may as well lug around an Ipad!

I suspect that 3rd party stores will discount them bit by bit until they deplete stock. Apple does not sell 'refurb' iPhones in the UK so I suspect they will either sell their stock (at a discount) to 3rd parties or keep the remaining stock to use as refurb replacements for people with broken models (either via Apple Care or paid). I think it's likely that as Apple knew the X would be discontinued a long time ago stock must be getting pretty low.

I'm also keeping an eye on this. For me, the X and XS are so similar I couldn't justify the price increase for the S so really hoping there will be some cheaper Xs around soon.

Completely agree, and, for me, it is the sweet spot in terms of size. But Apple aren't stupid, they know this and know that the majority of people who are choosing between the xs and xr will probably say "f it, it's only $250 extra and it is a lot better" and go for the xs. I won't be one, but there will be many.

Also, the timing will persuade more people to buy the xs; many would have waited so long and another 6 weeks for the xr will be too much and as such they'll just for the xs. I imagine the xr is completely ready to go but holding it back for another month will turn would be xr customers into xs customers. Apple are very, very, very smart.
