so yesterday I dropped my phone and cracked the screen.

Took it to Apple today and they replaced it. Now whenever I use 3D Touch right in the center of the screen, it makes a popping sound.

Best way to describe it is it’s a sticky popping sound. Only when pressed in the center of the phone. Noticed it while texting in a quiet room.

Is something I can fix? Thanks

I would just bring it to them and explain the situation. Should be a free fix since it was no fault of your own

Take it back and demand they fix it.

Sounds like the screen may not have been seated or replaced properly.
Yeah I have an apt at a diff store tomorrow at 1:10. You can barely press the screen and hear it. Very odd. Of course tomorrow it'll be very loud and ill get the "cant hear it" reply.

Hopefully not, although likely.

I would demand that they make it right and replace the screen again or replace it with an express replacement device.

They can always take it back to their quiet room and see if they can reproduce the issue.

I don’t think you would have to ‘demand’ anything. Being respectful and calm Can still address the issue. If the customer is experiencing issues with the replacement display with a popping sound, it’s likely the laminate or a separation of the panel. It should be a non-issue with the repair process where they replace/repair the panel.

Good luck. I had this issue on my iPhone X. If I pressed on the screen toward the middle it would make a popping / clicking sound. I first noticed it when I put a case on it and it made the noise. Apple told me they couldn't hear anything, then they took it into the back room and said it was normal. I let it go because it didn't affect my use at all.

Yeah my first one never did this. If I didn’t hear this on normal use I wouldn’t be bothered.

A bunch of sensitive eyeballs in here. You must not have to deal with the same Apple Stores I have had to deal with. The ones here don't just roll out red carpets and think that your rear-end tastes like cotton candy.

I had a phone with AppleCare+ that had never been used before. I dropped said phone and the back glass broke. I had to DEMAND that they replace the device with a replacement unit when the back glass was broken. They said that the back glass was not covered under the AppleCare+, even though accidental damage was covered, and that it was impossible to replace the device. They stated that there was no such thing as an out of warranty replacement option either; my only option was to buy a new phone.

You're damn right that I DEMANDED they fix it (by replacing the device) and you're damn right that I got corporate involved with them too. I ultimately got to pay my $99 replacement fee, used one incident of my AppleCare+, and went on about my business like I should have been able to from the beginning.

So yes, you probably will have to go into the store and demand that they replace the screen a second time at their cost. You think that they're just going to start swapping parts and taking phones apart for free? If so, let me know where my plane ticket needs to take me the next time any of my Apple products need service or replacement.

Anyway, hopefully OP is able to get it properly resolved, but I would be demanding that it be fixed.

DEMAND! DEMAND! DEMAND!

Where do you live?! I’ve been to many Apple stores in many countries in Europe and the USA and have never had any issues at all ever.

Well they didnt do anything. They told me the taptic engine was not sealed proper and fixed it but they couldn't fix the sound.

Repair guy said some phones do that after they have been opened. I left, didnt want to deal with it.

Opened up chat and told them what happened, express replacement will be here tomorrow. Can prob say I wont be going back to stores. Love AppleCare and the chat feature.

Somehow not terribly surprised at your experience. At least they tried to solve it, but the lack of willingness the stores have displayed to try and solve problems or replace devices (that have either been damaged or that they screwed up trying to fix) has been astounding to me.

Glad that Support was able to be of assistance to you and that you demanded that the problem be corrected.

“Clicking” of that nature would be cause for concern in regards to the water resistance rating.

Exactly. Thats what I said. They said the IP something rating isnt affected bc the phone is sealed up.

I dunno. If the express replacement has the same issue, then ill just keep it. But ive not seen this in person before.

I live in a large city, where I have multiple Apple stores not that far from me. And I have had intermittent issues with an Apple Watch before, a few iPhones, etc. And of all the stores I have ever visited, I have _never_ had to demand anything from anyone. Even if my experience wasn’t the same from one store to another, the problem was always resolved because of Apples customer service one way or the other without having to demand what I want. I understand everyone’s experience will vary, but the nature of the Demanding in customer service is discourteous and does NOT result in the most desired outcomes.

However, I like how the OP handled the situation, they left the store and utilized a different route trying to contact Apple through live chat/Apple support for the issue and they found another avenue. Sometimes that’s how it is in customer service, is consistency is never the same because of training standards, leadership, personality, ect . But at least the issue was resolved with the clicking noise with the iPhone in the end.
