iPhone X to cost £30 more a month than Note 8

after working out what things would cost here in UK when comparing the samsung upgrade program to the apple upgrade program.

It will cost £33 a month on the Samsung upgrade program and £63 on the apple upgrade program.

I'm currently on a three sim only deal paying £21 a month for 12GB of data but on a 12 month sim only deal there is a deal of £18 a month for 100GB of data and unlimited texts and calls. Tempting to do this deal and get the note 8.

Might just wait for the x to be out to make the decision. I could get the gear S3 for £252 on amazon as thats the cheapest I've seen and the tab S3 for £21 a month on a pay later deal. I would still keep my ipad pro 12.9 for sure though.

People at work think i'm mad for even considering the iphone which they call old tech for 30 quid more a month.

the upgrade program is what i mentioned and thats what those prices come from.

It's a mixed bag depending on the person. Facial recognition sucks for me, but the Iris scanner and Finger sensor work flawless. Being that the iPhone X only has one option which is Face ID, I wonder if it's going to work well for most. Samsung was smart not to stick to one biometric option.

on the S8 plus it's pretty lightening fast. Would say touch ID is slightly faster but not much in it to be honest

Sometimes, both ways. If I'm directly looking at my display, I don't even have to think about unlocking my phone, it just unlocks instantly because of the Iris scanner. Works great when double tapping a notification on the AOD display, which takes me straight to the app. Also, for the very few Samsung apps/services that use the Iris scanner, I prefer that over the finger sensor.

But the finger sensor is faster in the sense that you don't need to press the power or home button to wake up the display first. Just rest your finger and you're at the homescreen.

So that’s a £869 over 24months to get £32 per month.

iPhone X 256GB is £1149 + £199 AppleCare over 20 months. To get £64 per month.

I don’t think they’re really like for like comparisons due to storage size differences, AppleCare and term length.


If you use the 64GB iPhone X and remove AppleCare, that’s £46.50 also over 20 months. (iPhone payments plan)

But the iphone payment plan is no option to upgrade after 12 months. While the samsung you can upgrade after 12 months. The reason why it is comparable is due to the fact it won't cost much at all to put an SD card in it. I have personally found apple care to be rather pointless for me. I have never needed something like that and all issues are covered with my bank anyway and it's not like you don't still need to pay upfront for using apple care when you damage your phone.

You could sell an iPhone after 12 months and pay off the remaining 8 months (£372). Unless you’ve trashed it, it should be worth more than you owe even using envirofone or something.

It’s comparable because it’s basically the best two flagships out on the market by the two biggest well known companies.

The fact the price point of the x is that amount is why the note 8 is a good option as it is very overpriced for what we are likely to get. Not forgetting the size that we will viewing on the x in video mode will be barely 5 inch

My iris scanner works great. It’s my number one unlock method. It tracks correctly the overwhelming majority of the time.

It's actually ready good and it's still working a week later which is good. I think after a few days I'd disabled it on the S7 edge because it kept failing and locking me out for 30 seconds.

Face unlock is working pretty well for me although I do have it set to the more secure option but i don't really care because I have the FPS.

For me when in the office I would use facial recognition and fingerprint scanner and iris scanner when out and about. The options are good.

Phones are not worth upgrading yearly anymore, so if you want a phone to use for the next several years, the Note 8 is the best bet. The Note 4 was very versatile and I feel like the Note 8 is the closest thing to it because you have the SD slot mainly even though the battery is now sealed.

100% spot on. I don't understand a lot of the crowd here, how they can blow $8,000 a year on buying each flagship phone released. That's ***** insanity. Who has that kind of ca$h to blow on a bunch of cell phones each year ?

It seems some forum members here will have bought the; Galaxy S8+, LG G6, OnePlus 5, Galaxy Note 8, iPhone 8+, LG V30, Pixel 2 XL, iPhone X.

And why would you do that ? Today all the phones are so similar, if you have one 2017 Android flasgship, and one 2017 Apple flagship phone, i could see that, and your good. But why get every Android flagship to test out ? Unless your just won the Lotto or something ?

Does your phone text, do phone calls, get e-mails, surf the web, and check sports scores ? YEP all the phones today do that, so why buy so many different phones ? At the end of the day there's almost zero difference in smartphones doing the most important day to day tasks.

I actually went back to my old Nexus 6P which is two years old. And early this year I had both the iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy S8+, and guess what ? My Nexus 6P running a custom ROM and custom kernel feels smoother and less lag than the S8+ I had. FACT. And the iPhone 7 Plus was nice, but iOS is way too limiting for my tastes.

Point being, a two year old Google phone is still on par with brand new phones. Yeah the newer phones have better cameras, and nicer displays, and are more efficient. But back in 2015 this Nexus 6P was a flagship, and still feels like it.

I really want to get the Pixel 2 XL, but that $1,000 price tag is unsettling.
