Saw a leaked article on Google about a future iPhone XI which will include Touch & face ID. This would be good because at the moment I will not move from my iPhone 8 until Apple produces a phone with Touch ID. I dislike FaceID and think Touch ID is far more convenient. I wonder if Apple would make Touch ID in the screen instead of having a button.

I think there is a small possibility it will happen.
I hope it does, i think touch ID and face ID would compliment each other and give users more options.
Given the choice i would take touch ID over face ID any day.

Don’t bet your life on it.. If Apple offers an update to the SE you’ll see touchid in some form but flagship phones will have Faceid. It works too well for them to take a step back and it will only get better with improvements in the hardware. You can always hang onto your 8, it will be supported for a long time..

I’ll hang onto the 8. Still got plenty of disk space left and processing power.

Why do you dislike FaceID? It's simply that you find TouchID easier to use or are there any other reasons? Another person posted how they don't like FaceID constantly scanning (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-to-completely-shut-off-truedepth-on-iphone-x.2162067/). It got me to thinking about if there are any health concerns with FaceID.

If Apple does add back in TouchID (which I highly doubt happening anytime soon), if they would also add a way to disable FaceID or if FaceID would remain fully operational and is just augmented with TouchID.

The leaked article you saw is just a patent that was granted to Apple. This by no mean means that next year they will bring back the Touch ID.
And these patent things tend to get mentioned by a discredited blog site called Patently Apple that has been wrong more than once. Once it starts and other 'legit' sites report on it, it gets taken as gospel.

None of the patents that Patently Apple reports on are fake. Apple actually applies for them, but the thing is that the blogger that does this has a tendency to attach his own opinion about them and when he thinks Apple will act on them. Sometimes he pulls out older patents and does this as brand new news.

The site is a pox on real people involved in the patent industry.

I'll tell you why, it never works for me when I am getting out of bed, and using my phone to turn the lamp on. Thankfully there's the HomeKit control center shortcut.

So you find it to not work as reliably as TouchID did.

My only thing is that there are times when I use my significant others phone and it's a pain to wait for Face ID to not work and have to wait for the pass code to pop up. I think it would be nice if we could do two faces. Other than that I don't mind it and like it on my personal phone for normal use.

Because reaching up and manually turning on the light would have been impossible? My word, what did you do before all this technology? :)

A ‘leaked’ article on Google? There are so many un-credible articles about Apple and the iPhone, it’s absolutely ridiculous. Whatever you read, it was not true. There is zero indication Apple will add a second biometric security function, not when Tim Cook said Face ID is the future for the iPhone at the moment.

In case you didn’t know, Apple actually commented in an interview (I believe it was Craig Federighi)and said they tested touch ID under the display, and abandoned that in place for Face ID, once it was fully operable.

I think Apple's all in with Face-Id. They upgraded their iPad Pros recently and partly because they could. But I think they're done with Touch-Id.

I'm pro Face ID but I even concede that in certain conditions (unlocking your phone at an angle when Touch id better).

What do you have against Face ID? It works incredibly well.

The lamp is across the room, and unfortunately reaching up and turning it on manually would cause my devices to become “out of sync” because it had a Hue bulb in it.

Aha! I was kidding with you under the assumption you would have a bedside lamp you could just reach for but thanks for the explanation. :)

You CAN use two faces. It’s called “Additional Appearance” and it’s been available since IOS12. FaceID has been working with amazing reliability for me.

I can't believe we are still freaking talking about Touch ID. Did nobody on this website see the keynote where Apple basically took Touch ID out to pasture when introducing Face ID as 20x more secure?

MOVE ON.

I agree. But there are some who just simply can’t believe Apple is using Face ID, even when Tim Cook said it’s their future. And apparently some believe that touch ID will be embedded under the display along side Face ID for the 2019 iPhone. It just goes to show you that some are either completely out of touch with how Apple operates or they believe the first thing they read based off a ‘Google’ search.

You know I just saw that last week and hadn’t had a chance to check it out while on vacation. Thanks!!
