The new iPhone Xr costs $749 (~642€) in the US.
And Apple wants between 849 - 889€ for the same phone in European countries.
The taxes in EU country are between 19-25%.
That means after taxes and shipping Apple wants a premium of around 80€ for the same phone sold in the EU.
What do you think are the reasons for this decision?

Your also forgetting the US price will have tax applied depending on state

There are additional import duties to be paid in the EU economic area and business costs.
Which beyond the import taxes?

The stated US baseline price i calculated based on already contains the US taxes.

The reasons are you are European.
Are you saying the reason is nationalism?

At least in Germany they also have to pay the copyright holders agency GEMA a certain amount
I think this not even close to the mentioned 80€, do you have any numbers on that?

Almost everything else here is crazy expensive, so at least we can get a bit of value on Apple products :) I think it's because our VAT is only 7.7%. For me, iOS12 is doing a sterling job in keeping my 6S useful so I won't be upgrading anyway. And I don't wear a watch.

It's the forced included 2 year garanty...
In English the correct word is warranty, Garantie is only in German (and we have no Garantie, "nur" Gewährleistung in the EU. I have no idea how to translate that in English). You know what I am talking about.

And there is just one year of warranty in Germany (two years of “Gewährleistung“). Also the higher price is not Germany exclusive. Can’t be the reason therefore.

I find it very interesting that so far nobody seems to know the actual reason behind the higher price of the iPhones in the EU, apart from the nationalist argument.

€909 in Norway, doubt its because of fees and more just “because they can”. They likely have people checking how much people in each country are willing to pay beyond their original profit margin, rich European countries would probably suffer greatly.

The iPhone XS starts at almost $1500 here... ridicolous

It has nothing to do with how rich the country is. It's mostly VAT that increases more or less the price. I don't live in any of the wealthiest EU/EEA member-states however the VAT is 23% here (Portugal). iPhone XR starts at 879€, iPhone Xs at 1179€ and iPhone Xs Max at 1279€.

I think they mean ‘guarantee‘.

The 256 GB iPhone XS is more than $200 more expensive in Sweden than in the US, event without Sweden's 25% VAT.

Did you actually read the first message?

No it doesn’t. State sales tax will be added to that $749 price (except in the handful of states which don’t collect this tax, like Delaware).
