Knowing what you know about junior high kids....would you think the coral would be an issue for a boy? For the record, I am all for my kids loving whatever color they like and my boys had dolls when they were kids and kitchen toys to play with etc. I just hate to make a choice where my kid gets made fun of for his phone. He likes the color and I do too. Share with me if you are a guy and have coral. He has had a pink 6s in the past.

Reward him with what he likes. If the Rose Gold worked well for him then the Corral should too. Congratulations on having a son who thinks for himself, and congratulate yourself for being open minded enough to seek outside opinions.

He is liking the coral right now..so I think we will go with it. Thank you!

But would love a few other opinions. I said I would get him the red and return the Coral... but he’s feeling confident. Lol. But junior high kids can be cruel!

I work with adolescents almost on a daily basis and they are very cruel. However, what I have found in my years of working with them is when you get a kid that has a lot of self-confidence and is comfortable in his/her own skin. The other kids don't seem to mess with them like they do those kids that lack confidence or feel unsure of themselves. In those cases it's like the sense the weakness and go in for the kill.

I think you are doing the right thing letting him pick what he wants and he should be well aware of his comfort level and how he already interacts with the other kids. Chances are it won't be a big deal at all.

I don’t want it to be a therapy session...but before this year... he struggled with friends so terribly! They were so cruel to him. But he seems to have found a spot now... He is much more confident now...I just don’t want to lead him to an issue. I guess worst comes to worse I cover it with a skin!

And I agree with you. Confidence seems to be key.:)

No therapy, but most kids go one of two ways... they live in fear of the cruel kids constantly or they eventually get to the place where they have those one or two good friends and they decide they are going to just be themselves and to hell with those that don't like them or find them different. Kids that have had to deal with verbal and even physical abuse tend to be much tougher than we think. So if he has found his spot and has the confidence that is a good thing. The key I would think is allowing him to make the decision because he knows his interconnections at school better than you or I.

Yes a case or even a skin would take care of the issue should it become one. Our local Junior High School doesn't allow kids to have phones at school. If you bring one you have to turn it in before the first bell and you can get it back at the end of your last class. If you get caught with it at school, you are suspended for 3 days. Heck of a way to deal with it, but I guess it just became a problem with the kids being on the phones rather than paying attention in class.

Great words! He seems to be in that better spot which is amazing for this mama. Hope it keeps! And you are right...I should just trust him!

I am surprised by how they are allowed to having their phones in school. They can even bring headphones to listen to music during electives! He doesn’t do this...but it surprised me. He hasn’t had any issues with his phone at school...yet so it seems he is following their rules. He knows if he gets in trouble with it there...that the punishment at home will not be something he wants. He desperately wants to keep having it at school!

Almost bought the coral myself.

Ended up leaving the store with yellow, but would have been equally happy if I bought the coral!!

Kids can be cruel, but I don’t think they’re as close-minded as kids from the ‘90s or earlier. I think they’re more open-minded about things than ever before. Well, most of them are...

Kids these days are mean, cruel and disrespectful. Way worse than when I was in school. And they are pack hunters. They like to go in groups and gang up on one. They will find another's weakness and exploit it.

That being said I think a junior high boy owning a phone that could be taken as a girls color phone is a recipe for disaster.

It's great that your boy has a mind of his own. But just look at the times we live in. Kids have enough trouble getting along and fitting in. This is just giving those mean ones an excuse to torment him. I had to deal with mean kids picking on my son when he was in school for things beyond his control. Like his height or things about his physical appearance. Again kids can be so cruel a mean. And they prey on the weaker. No matter how confident they are in themselves.

Do yourself a favor and save him the aggravation and torment. Get him a more neutral color.

One other thing to consider. Kids change their mind like they change their clothes. He is more than likely going to get bored with the color and want something different within a few months.

Well...he took it to school today. 4 boys wanted the phone. A few people asked why his phone was pink...and he said...I got a good deal on it....(since we only paid $350 (128) for it.). Lol! He seems fine with it but I’m ordering a skin just in case. Can always add it if he encounters issues.

He’s still laughing that I got him a new phone because he wrote a toastmasters speech a year ago about how you shouldn’t upgrade your phone every year. He said now he’s a hypocrite.
