iPhone iPhone XR not locating friends sharing locations

I have an iPhone XR currently on iOS 12.1. I have a few people who share their location with me, however when I go in through my text messages, pull up the message thread, click on their name, and then click info, the area where the map normally is that shows me where they are says location not available. It doesn’t even appear to try to refresh that information. I also have an iPad Air 2, but I don’t have that issue on my iPad. It even works on the iPad when I have the iPad tethered to my iPhone XR via the hotspot.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Hmmmmm. Looks like I’ll have to hit up the Genius Bar when I’m in town next Friday. 2.5 hour drive from home. But we are headed up anyhow.

Looks like the issue has resolved itself with the installation of 12.1.1.
