Other iPhone Xs CarPlay/Bluetooth signal bars not updating

new iPhone Xs, noticed that the cellular signal strength on both my Mustang and the wifes Grand Cherokee doesn’t update as I’m driving around.

My typical drive from work includes a couple of spots where signal drops from 4 to 1 bars, and I usually watch for these when getting a new phone to see if fringe area coverage improves. I noticed on this new phone that the signal remains at 4 bars as it is when I leave work until I turn the screen on, as soon as the screen is illuminated the signal updates and shows the current signal. Once the display turns off again, signal no longer updates on the car infotainment display again.

Connected my wifes iPhone 8 today and confirmed signals update as expected on her Jeep while driving around. Disconnected her phone, reconnected my Xs and signal strength no longer updates on the display.

Anyone else notcing this? iOS 12.0 if that makes any difference, issues on both Sync 2 and uConnect systems.

Bumping this back up, as the issue is still occurring with 12.1.3. I have checked multiple different in-car entertainment systems, as well as Xs and Xs Max devices, neither one updates signal while the phone is in standby mode (display off). This can be duplicated even without connecting to bluetooth just by moving around a bit to an area known to have differing signal strength, then tap to wake the display on the phone. It will take about 5 seconds or so, but the signal will update reflecting the current signal instead of the previous behavior where it updated in the background every few seconds.

Today, I drove into work in the Grand Cherokee with my phone connected to CarPlay. Left home with 2 bars of service, and connected to iHeartRadio so the phone would remain active. Watched the display the entire drive to worwk (~11 miles or so), and the signal always showed 2 bars. Upon pulling into the parking lot at work (where I can see the nearest T-Mobile tower), I tapped the display to wake the phone. After approx. 5 seconds, the signal strength updated to 4 full bars of service as would be expected at this location, and at many others along my route to work.

Death grip the iPhone down to 1 bar of signal and turn the screen off, start the video, wait about 10 seconds to prove it's not updating, then turn the screen on and watch it jump back up to 2 bars of signal. 2 different cars, bluetooth on both and CarPlay on one, exact same results.

Potato quality...video was taken with a Galaxy S8 (that happens to update signal via Bluetooth/Android Autio just fine).

Bumping up again, issue still exists under all versions of iOS 13. I have also tested a second Xs, an Xs Max, and an Xr with the exact same results across multiple carriers. Numerous bug reports have been filed, and logs have been collected at their request with no resolution in sight.

Resurrected from the dead to say...it's 2023 and this is still an issue I've had continually for years now. Seriously annoying.
