hello all! Just got my new Xs and cannot get it to display in iTunes (to be able to restore it as a backup of my 8+). My computer recognizes it and iTunes even does (I get the prompt to respond on my iPhone when asked if I trust the device), but once I click “trust” and enter the passcode, nothing happens.) I’m no stranger to iTunes/iPhone interaction; I’ve restored every iPhone I’ve ever had—which is every one since the 3GS—as backup with no issues, so this is a new one to me. Any suggestions?

My PC is a crappy ol’ Windows 7 HP. I just connected my iPhone 8+ to it and iTunes immediately recognized and displayed it, so I have no clue.

Mine this morning had a stupid dialog behind the iTunes window that I didn't see -- it wanted me to do an update so I could connect the phone... you might try that, or see if there's an iTunes update?

I'm on a Mac and had backed everything up on my old phone and was all ready to roll, then suddenly nothing connected, and that was why - I didn't see the dialog sitting behind iTunes telling me to update. Good luck!

Thanks for that! I ended up contacting Apple support and was extremely skeptical when they said that an iTunes update would fix it because the previous version wasn’t optimized for iOS 12...despite the fact that i’d already explained that my iP8+ was running iOS 12. Well, whatever the reason, that worked. After a giant cluster backing up my old phone overnight and this morning, I was finally able to get the Xs synced and up and running! Holy cow. Lol.

When I plugged in my XS the first time to iTunes there was a pop up saying I should download something for it to work with iOS 12 . So I clicked and everything worked fine afterwards .

I went through a variation of this drill yesterday also. After updating my 6S to iOS 12 (prior to backing it up in preparation for the changeover to my new XS Max), iTunes could no longer recognize when I was plugging it in to the MacBook. I then discovered that the two month old MacBook couldn’t see the XS Max either.

An Apple customer service supervisor walked me through the process of going to the online iTunes site and downloading whatever version is available there. This worked as a fix for me.
