So that portrait mode bokeh editing is limited to A12 Bionic? Why?
I can do this perfectly and even much more professional on my iPhone X by using the Focos App

I created a short video to show you precisely what I mean:

You can even refocus after the picture has been done.
If you remember Lytro, you know how magic that is.

That all runs on the iPhone X using iOS 11.
And with iOS 12, even more details like hair will be recognized.
So why the huge applause at the Apple Event yesterday?

Not all users know about those apps unfortunately. Most the people I've seen just use Instagram filters BTW so the concept of manipulating DOF post process is a marvelous thing to them lol

What struck me the most is that you seem to manually point at where the effect should take place. The Xs version seems to automatically identify the target and do the booker. Maybe connected to the new neural engine?

It’s not the first time Apple has withheld new features from older devices and it won’t be the last.

Not making any excuses, it’s not good but it has literally always been this way.

I will say Apple doesn’t do it half as much as others though.

In this case you have an app that gives you the capability so no real loss.
