Trying to help a friend, so pardon the incomplete info.

Intermittent minor screen unresponsiveness went to 100% in him overnight.

iPhone XS, iOS 16.x, passcode enabled, unknown of Siri enabled or Find My enabled. He managed to restart it, but now he’s lock screen blocked.

My thought I can’t get a clear answer on, is there any way to force enable Siri at lockscreen, so she can enable voice controls and the passcode can be input?

Just playing around with my own iPhone, I don’t see a way.

What would be the point, though? He’d still have an unlocked iPhone with no display.

It’s time to get it in for service, or buy a new iPhone.

I told him to backup and to use iCloud and to enable Siri, but he didn’t listen.

Same as everybody, he just wants to get his data off. he can pay to repair with legitimate parts, but then that takes the money out of his new iPhone budget.

When I worked at the Genius Bar we would use a Lightning to USB-A adapter and a wired USB keyboard plugged into it to overcome this issue. You can use a keyboard to enter the passcode.

He's just learned a Life Lesson, then.
