Iphone4s Port Broken?

My iphone 4s has tons of issues. From the battery being very bad... i had it replaced at a cell repair shop... the battery was still bad. Battery goes out at around 60+ percent now.


Not only that... it seemed like the iphone charger cannot connect exactly to the iphone. Its like it doesn't go in. Thus when i connect it to my laptop, it say cannot recognize device... usb error.


So basically only way for me to charge my iphone is connect the charger to the wall. Excuse me... i think i used wrong choice of words. But basically the usb cable to my iphone doesn't connect to the iphone fully. Its not a perfect fit. But on the other end of it... no issues connecting it to the wall with the charger outlet etc. Thus i cannot plug my iphone to the computer to charge it or do anything to it.
 
Seems like your 30-pin connector was affected/damaged when your iPhone's battery was replaced, which is also why your iPhone is never fully charged (in spite of it showing 100% charged). So yes as your title says, your iPhone port is broken. You can go to an Apple Store and let them have a look, although I'm not sure if they still support 4s. Alternatively, you may want to go back to the 'genius' who fixed the battery and un-fixed everything else.
 
Hi question on this. I don't recall exactly when i could no longer connect iphone to my laptop. But i did recall it did work for a bit until this happened. So what is most likely the case for this then?


The battery is very strange. Basically when you charge it fully, yes it go to 100 percent. If using the iphone for a while, it stays at 100 percent for a long time. Then after a while it drops down. Then around 60+ percent basically it turns off. When i charge it back to the wall and it charging, basically you see it at 60+%. Anyone else have this issue?


How much would it cost to fix the iphone port? Would you say its very easy to break it if you are replacing the battery of an iphone? This was at phone repair shop so obviously they knew what they were doing.


Is it even worth it to fix this then? I was thinking of getting an iphone 5s due to this. Basically issues are... battery is horrible even after battery replacement... cannot connect to itunes since usb not recognized. I do like this iphone a lot.


Thus if it could be like when i first got it, i wouldn't replace it and keep it.
 
Does anyone know about how much it would cost to have this replaced? So this is 100 percent the reason why my battery is so bad then?

Because if i could get my iphone 4s like how it was when i first got it, i would not go and buy the iphone 5s. I can get the iphone 5s for around 340 or so on ebay.

Also is it possible my 30 pin connector is damaged but the battery thats inside my iphone 4s is still good or not? Could it be possible its a software update that caused this? Then again... i still have the issue of the usb not going completely in my iphone 4s.
 
I had a bad charging port in my 4s a couple of years ago. I bought a new charging port from an Amazon dealer for under $8, along with a toolkit for $5, and used iFixit's site to replace it myself.

It was a 22-step process (and another 22 steps to reassemble everything), but was straightforward. Step 3 or 4 was removing the battery, so a shop is going to want to charge a bit more for labor to replace the charging port. Around here, you can get a battery replaced in a 4s for about $35. I'd guess that port is going to run $75+ at a shop. Not sure how the "genius" could have ruined that port just taking the battery out.
 
If you are very bad at installing things... would you suggest i not do this then? Im someone that cannot do stuff like this unless instructions are very easy. I can't even remove a hard drive and put new one in because im not tech savy.


Well i dont know if he ruined the port or not. Im pretty sure after i got my phone back, i could still charge my phone to my laptop and view my things there. I'm pretty certain he didn't ruin it. Could things just build up in that area to cause this? I will say that i have the case on my iphone almost all the time. When i charge my iphone, i almost never take the case out.


Anyone else know the price costs for something like this? So if its $75 for the port, battery cost another $35... the service will another how much you think? Then wouldn't this come close to $150 at least? If thats the case, would you say just get the iphone 5s on ebay for around $340 instead? Could it be possible the port is damaged but my battery is still actually very good? Thus i dont need battery replacement? Heres another strange thing. After i updated my iphone again to latest update, my battery stayed at 100 percent for over 2 hours while watching on youtube. Then it gets lowered and what will happen is phone will go out at 60 plus percent. Thanks.
 
Replacing the port requires a lot of fine motor skills. I'd probably just get another phone. You can buy a used 5s on Swappa.com now for $200.
 
Do you know how much replacing the port will cost? If i go to repair shop and explain to them my issues... my battery has those issues... and it doesn't plug in correctly the usb into the phone and doessnt recognize on laptop, can they tell me 100 percent thats the issue?


Other thing is if i go to genius bar at apple, i believe theres no cost right? Thus they basically tell you for free what is the issue then give you options... and you can do that or not right? Do most places who look at your phone not genius bar charge you money for just doing a quick diagnostic of the issue?
 
Okay before i bring it to a repair shop... do you think its a good idea to do a restore of my phone? Thus delete everything on it? Has anyone here done this and this fixed the problem? But at best it fixes the battery issue but the dock port connector thing will always be an issue right? So basically this isn't going to do anything really to solve both problems?
 
Okay looking for input on this. I went to a repair shop for them to look at my iphone 4s. They likewise noticed my iphone doesn't connect/charge to a laptop. But does charge to the walloutlet. The guy took a thing and took a lot of dust out of my iphone. He said he didn't have the parts for the dock replacement or the battery but will have it soon.


I will be going back soon since they got the parts.


Now here is something that is a bit strange. I had previously charged my iphone for at least 12 hours etc. Now... I don't seem to have the battery going out at 80 percent plus anymore. I'm going to see how low the battery can go before it turns off. If thats the case, does that mean i only need to get the dock pin replaced and not the battery? The thing is before i had went to the repair shop, that night i had recharged my phone for at least 12 hours. I have not done this in a very long time. Then when the guy looked at my phone and took out a lot of dust... he did say something is stuck there ... though not sure what it is.


Could there be a chance its the dust that could have caused my battery to be very bad? And that solved the issue? Or is it most likely because i had charged my iphone 12 hours plus before going there... because at the moment... it still very high percentage in the battery and doesn't close at 80 percent. I will see what percentage it will close my iphone.
So if it doesn't close till like 5%, does that mean i should not get battery replaced and only get the dock pin replaced?


This is very strange. I guess if battery i test is very good and doesn't turn off till like 5%, then i should just get the dock pin fixed... then the battery... i do that later if i have the same issue? I assume they cannot tell the battery is worn out just by looking at it right? So is it the dust the guy took out from the charging port... or is it me charging iphone 12 hours plus that caused my iphone to not turn off with high percentage?
 
I'm also wondering something. Could it be possible the usb charger for my iphone is damaged and its making the port in my iphone 4s worst? Or should it not be something to think of?


And as of now, assuming phone doesn't turn off until say 5 percent... then just get the dock pin replaced and not the battery? Im perplexed why my iphone hasn' turned off yet at the 80 percent part yet... Im going to stream youtube until it goes all the way down to see when iphone goes out.
 
So I went to the repair shop and the guy replaced the dock for me. As of now, i can connect it to my laptop and it recognizes the device. However, it seems if i dont connect it fully straight, it doesn't recognize it. I assume this is standard and normal?


Does this mean my iphone 4s is pretty much good now since the dock pin is replaced? Should i also get my battery replaced as well even though the first time i tested it after recharging it for 12 hours... phone goes out at 20%. Previously it was going out at 60 percent, then 80 percent etc. Or should i just get a new battery where battery should go out at 2 percent? What percentage should an iphone close off automatically though? Is it 2 percent? 1 percent? 5 percent?
