I recently had an unfortunate accident and my iPhone 7 was literally destroyed. I intend to replace it w/an XR..what information exactly does the SIM card hold? What I'm really asking is, if I install the old sim into the new phone, will I have my texts, contacts, and other info that was on my phone?

(I do have a b/u in iTunes but I don't think that will restore all of my old texts which is really what I'm after along w/any pics that were on the old phone, but not yet transferred to my mac.) I use Verizon btw

If the sim won't restore my text messages, is there some way to restore them through iMessage?

Only your device phone number and billing information is stored on the SIM card.

Any other content is stored on the iPhone. Basically, everything relies on your iTunes or iCloud backup. Hope your iTunes backup was recent.

That's kinda' what I suspected, and thanks for the quick response. Yes, fortunately I do have a recent b/u and don't stand to lose many pictures but, really really would like to have all my previous text mssgs displayed on the new phone. Ah well, 1st world problems. Thanks again.

That stinks. :( I now have my photos set to automatically upload to iCloud, and I have iCloud turned on for Messages. This means that I can access those across all my Apple hardware, but it also means that I essentially have everything backed up at least one layer. Something to consider.
