I have an ancient thread I posted here years ago, asking if fellow MacRumors readers had two phones to separate their business lives from their personal lives. The majority response then was - yes, NoCleverSNForMe, you should have two phones. Keep the two worlds separate.

Now with a $999 and $1099 start price for the iPhone Xs, and hell, even $749 for a iPhone Xr, it's getting pricier to keep the two separate devices. It feels ridiculous. Any of you struggling with this? I placed an order for two iPhone Xs Max's and I feel a little anxious just thinking of carrying both around. (Taking the price part of the conversation aside, there's also the fact that I'd be carrying two huge phones in my pocket every day)

I really want to go back to one phone for both. I'd have to combine my business and personal phones, which means the downside there'd be no "off" switch for when I get home. I'd still be getting all my work calls/texts on my one phone. Ugh!

Thanks for letting me process this!

I had separate work (AT&T) and personal (VZW) phones for years and upgraded each phone every other cycle. Since my company doesn't care if we use our work phones for personal use, earlier this year I finally dropped my personal cell phone and then regretted it. It was a pain to have to remember to disable mail notifications on my work account when I didn't want to be bothered. So I got another personal phone.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the dual-SIM technology works when it's supported later this year. Ideally I could have one phone with both numbers, with the option of some kind of software that helps to manage work/life balance. Maybe Siri shortcuts. "Hey Siri, I'm off work" could disable notifications for a specific email account or app and activate a Do-Not-Disturb-type of functionality for the work line.

do you really need an brand new iPhone for a work phone? Id pick up something cheap you can just use for work.

Thanks so much for this, man. You have no idea how much it helps.
