This is nonsense for two reasons.

1. There is no "iPhone LCD". I've seen a lot of iPhones, none of them had the exact same color representation. Some of them showed a night & day difference in comparison.
2. It can be generalized that all iPhone LCD's suck. They are cheap and low-res and almost all of them show washed out colors. Scientific analysis may "prove" that color representation on the iPhone is more closer to reality, it still looks incredibily washed out compared to almost every other competitor on the marktet.

Question: When you go to Best Buy, do you think the pictures on the TVs on display there look really good?

Analysts? Oh yeah, the one's that keep predicting Apple price cuts, new hardware releases, forward cameras, etc...

Just believe what you see for yourself. This changes nothing. Analysts are paid to open their mouth.

If there are two televisions and one displays only certain channels with 'higher graphics' and the other displays many more channels but with 'slightly lower graphics', which would you choose?

Few years ago I would have chosen the former, hence the iPhone because of aesthetics and that it did things really nicely. Today however, I am being swayed by the awesomeness that comes with Android, therefore the latter. Yes it has it's faults but I think the potential is there to make my tasks more enjoyable.

I don't care what this scientist says about the screens. He can run every test in the world that he wants but that doesn't prove anything to me. I own an iPhone and Nexus One and have used them both enough to believe I have a good feel for each phone and their screens. The Nexus screen wins hands down if you ask me. It is so much brighter, crisper, and just more enjoyable to look at and watch videos or look at pictures on. Big scientific words and explanations don't do it for me. When I have both phones, one in each hand, and go to the same websites or look at the same videos, the Nexus wins. I will agree though that the iPhone is superior overall as a device, but that is due to Android being so new. Everything technology is buggy in the beginning.

Um, yeah, the guy that did the test specifically said that:
Apple's handset has contrast that is too low and weak color saturation.

"Wow, this screen is amazing. So much better than my phone's"

Direct quote from an iPhone owning friend when he saw my Droid. The N1's screen is supposed to be even better than Droid's.

The test proved that the Nexus One was brighter and crisper. Its colors just weren't as close as those of a professional studio broadcast monitor. You, personally, may hate how professional studio broadcast monitors look. Big scientific words? Really?

That's what the guy who did the test said:
As for the current standard-bearer in mobile phone displays, Soneira said he would guess that title goes to the Motorola Droid. While he hasn't done any thorough tests, he said in his educated opinion Motorola's Android-powered handset, which has a 3.7-inch screen, is the leader.

I hate the iPhone's screen. Fortunately, after returning my iPhone 3G 4 times, I got a screen I was happy with. The screen I have in my iPhone 3G is the best iPhone screen I've ever seen. I've used so many people's iPhones and none of them look as good as my screen. I even tried buying an iPhone 3GS and I hated the screen on that as well. Then I returned the iPhone 3GS and went back to my 3G where I was happy with the quality.

I also tried buying an iPod touch 3rd gen and I wasn't satisfied with the screen I got.... so I returned it. I've also seen many iPod touch's with poor quality screens.

I don't know HOW I got so luck to get the screen that's in my iPhone 3G, but I'll probably never get a screen like this again... so when it dies, I'm waiting for new technology to be used in the iPhone.

Other phones are starting to put the iPhone to shame with screen technology.

I hope the next iPhone uses OLED or AMOLED.

I have a Droid and its screen definitely blows away the iPhone in all areas. It's basically like comparing an SDTV to HDTV. Not only the huge resolution difference but color and contrast is also much better on the Droid. Back when it came out the iPhone had a great screen, but now it is very outdated.

I love the iphones screen and how it looks.. I do not need CRAZY BRIGHT colors thrown in my face

You do not even NEED an iPhone. Also, who said anything about crazy bright colors? You could still turn down the brightness.

The Nexus, Droid's screens are superior in resolution and color display. Where they fall short is sunlight viewing, but I would say that's a minor sacrifice for a beautiful display. As I imagine the new iPhone will trend towards a higher res, AMOLED / OLED screen, it will suffer this same defect but still look beautiful in most occasions.

You can't tell in a store.

What I do know is that iPhone's LCD sucks by comparison to most competitors. Perhaps the color representation of the Nexus One may be further away from "real colors" than the iPhone, it simply doesn't matter. I have never seen a real life Android or iPhone UI. They only exist on phones, and that's what you're looking at for 99% of the time. Contrast and black levels are what matters.

Ok, I have never seen a Droid outside of a Star Wars movie. And I'm not a Apple fanboy as some would call.
I'm just a user of an iPhone.

But I want to make sure I'm getting this right, from your arguments.
People are arguing over which is better, a phone technology thats 2 years old versus a phone tech that is just a few months old. Is that about right?

I guess the logical thing to say is the two items aren't the same. OLED technology either wasn't mature enough when the iPhone came out or was much too expensive at that time. Would you of bought your Droid if the price for the OLED was the same as it was 2 years ago?
Maybe thats why the iPhone didn't use it.

However, don't compare technologies that are years apart.

If you argue on the internet, you automatically lose.

That's ********. First of all, the iPhone is 3GS is hardy 6 months old. Second, the Droid doesn't have an AMOLED display. Third, AMOLED displays have been around for quite a while. Fourth, there are tons of phones with better displays than the iPhone display out for more than two years.

Long story short: the iPhone LCD lacks in every aspect in comparison with the competition. It always has.

Actually, no. When the iPhone came out it had one of the best screens around and all the reviews raved about it. The fact that there are better screens around now doesn't mean the iPhone's display is crap, it just means it's not the best.

had 4 iphone 3gs, own an 3rd gen ipod touch and had a nexus one.

The nexus one screen wins hands down. Much richer, brighter and crisper. Got rid of the nexus due to it being buggy and not as polished as the iphone.

I call BS on what your saying.. so when the iphone was originally introduced which phones had better screens? you said "tons" of phones.. please name thses phones..

and when the 3G was announced who had a better screen.. all these phones you are mentioning are phones that came out AFTER the 3GS
