iPhone's website taking a brutal beating...

I am attempting to watch some of the videos on the iPhone site, but it is taking FOREVER to load them. I tried to download it, but it never exceeded 5 kb/sec. No, it is not my internet as every other site is fine.

I think come tomorrow, Apple's servers are going to be sooooo overloaded that I do not see how we will be able to download iTunes 7.3 or activate our iPhones in a timely manner. Does this scare anyone out there? I can just see it now...*Activation plans won't submit, so someone clicks accept multiple times, then once it does register, they are signed up for 4 - 2 year contracts* I hope Apple can keep their network good, unlike the day they unveiled Movies on iTunes....it took forever to download that day

It takes more bandwidth to probaly show a AD (let alone a movie) than to do the activation.

Me 2! I hope iTunes is in my software update by 5am est, so I can start downloading as I leave to wait in line.....Here's to hoping that the huge data center they purchased will be put into use tomorrow cause they WILL need it.

They should have released iTunes 7.3 yesterday, and at latest today (soon) or there is going to be a lot of problems tomorrow.

I'm surprised Apple hasn't released the update for 7.3 yet. If they don't get it out by early tomorrow, there are going to be a lot of angry people.

Also consider that even if tomorrow meets all expectations, they will have maybe 300,000 activations. Consider that in January of this year, Apple was selling 4.16 million songs per day. Then consider that an activation takes nowhere near the bandwidth that a single download takes (estimate 4MB for a song...which is going to be a low average because of the number of TV shows and movies). I think they'll definitely be able to handle it from a bandwidth perspective. However, the question is whether AT&Ts side of things can handle it. Will AT&T be able to take the data from iTunes and process it fast enough? I still think yes. It may be a large number of activations, but I don't see it being a really big drain.

They will have it out by then. I am starting to think that Apple hasn't released it on purpose. You can't activate the phone without it ... so even if it was leaked or released early ... its useless until the update comes through.

I had the same concern yesterday and posted a thread about it and everyone that replied said that would not be the case. I think they were full of s***. I see activation tomorrow taking hours and not a few minutes that Apple and AT&T are claiming. I hope we are wrong about this and it goes smooth but I doubt it. There goes our Friday night bar bar hopping and showing off our new phone... Guess we will have to wait for Saturday for our bragging rights to kick in....

Yes, but 300,000 activations within 4-6 hours vs 4.16M songs in 24 hours.

Also activation is more intensive in terms of server time to talk to the AT&T servers, etc.

Yeah, lots of server talk time here...because they actually have to do something other than let you download a song. It's about more than just pure bandwidth.
