if they pull it off, be prepared for a cruddy experience...

we don't know for sure but this phone is very tied into the ATT network.

might just do basic dialing and the edge support could be very very bad.

:(

I have been in the Unlocked GSM business for awhile now and all my very reliable sources stated this phone will not get unlocked until Apple is ready to unlock it. And Apple has taken drastic measures to assue this phone will stay on ATT. They have already stated they will not allow customers to unlock it for overseas travel. The phone will be released in Europe but to only Voda Network. This phone is not the norm and without a truly supported network, the phone would not be half as good as it is now with a supported network...just my .02

I agree 100%.

I think the indications say you are right. I know that the restore dmg is out in the wild... and heavily password protected.... this is no "frontrow:frontrow" like on Apple TV.

Apple has done a LOT to help insure $$$$ FOR ATT in this. Locking out 3rd party apps, for instance. I think it is more to protect ATT's money grab on text messaging than anything (I mean face it- unlimited web and e-mail is 20/month. What does text add to bandwidth on top of that- not much, but ATT is charging 20 MORE bills for that option!) I bet ring-tones will be the same- gotta protect that revenue stream. And if 3rd party apps were allowed, and Skypee ported over, where would that leave ATT? No, Apple and ATT are in bed with each other, and are protecting each other as strongly as possible.

As a stock holder, I agree; as a user, I am a bit pissed. I see both sides....

But the bottom line, Apple has a very vested intrest in keeping this locked. I would bet there will be very many hurdles to unlock this, it will not be easy. But hackers cracked Blue-Ray, so there is hope!

I 2nd that. I really don't think that iPhone will ever be unlocked. The fact that you need to dock it on iTunes to unlock it speaks volumes about the activation process.

Given the supposed private/pub key exchange between the iPhone and the Apple servers just to activate it, one can only imagine that the unlocking feature, if there is one, would be just as convoluted and nearly impossible to break on one's own.

Thank you for your interest in iPhoneUnlocking.com

We have had a rather busy day with over 130,000 requests for help
unlocking Apple iPhones.

Unfortunately it isn't all good news, we have some small problems.

The good news is, we are able to generate unlock codes that will
allow some functionality on the handset. However, you will not be
able to use luxury features e.g. Visual voicemail, no other network
supports these features.

The bad news is, we are having a few issues with iTunes. iTunes
seems to be kicking up a bit of a fuss when syncing with the
handset. This issue is being resolved by applying a small patch to
your iTunes software that will prevent it running certain routines
when syncing with the handset.

We are beta testing these codes and software with a small percentage
(~2%) of users.

We are working as hard and as fast as we can to be able to offer this
service to you with a full guarantee.

You should hear from us soon.

Thank you for you patience,

Looks good. Isn't it legal to unlock your phone anyway.

My prediction is that yes, because of govt regulation?? you will eventually, someday be able unlock it... but i bet you a dollar that regulation does not say that every feature has to work which means you get basic phone dialing and listening to your music. If that.

Seems that most people would be happy with just calls and texts on the phone side. As long as everything else worked over wifi.
