i know this might be a stupid question, but how do i make subfolders with iphoto.....like i have the library, and the folders underneath that are events and such.......but i could i have it organized like

Library
2001
Moms Birthday
2002
Bobs first word
2003
Vacation in Hawaii
6/23
6/24
6/25

Is this possible?

EDIT: the words underneath the years should be indented, but it isnt coming upp properly when i submit it

EDIT: hmm i dont know why it posted twice.....i did not mean to do that....i apologize

If you're talking about rearranging the folders in your iPhoto library.....don't. You'll mess up iPhoto completely if you start renaming folders and subfolders. And if you DO mess up iPhoto and rename folders back to their original name to try to fix iPhoto, sometimes it doesn't work, although usually it does.

If you want to divide your photos up into events and such, just create albums in iPhoto. You can't make sub-albums in iPhoto either, which again is too bad.

I don't know why Apple made a "consumer product" that messes up so easily. Its one of their worst apps (that and Finder), and I just started using "Path Finder" yesterday, which is my solution for the crappiness of FINDER, but iPhoto is still bloated and is too easy to mess up completely. It's a consumer product......does Apple assume that just because many of their customers are general users, that they won't rename folders? Unfortunately, this is the way the entire organization system works (based on date), so Apple would have to go back and start from scratch if they wanted to change it.

in iPhoto create a folder with the main heading you want and then you can create albums to put in that folder.

no no i dont care aobut how they are arranged like in the finder

but like i want sort of an outline view in the source menu on the left hand of the screen....like say a year with all the pictures from that year...then displayed under it indented have like an event in that year, with only pictures of that event....get what im saying?

Yes - I agree with both Abstract and Sahnert.

Don't confuse the way that iPhoto arranges photos on your hard disk with the way that it allows you to organise them for viewing (i.e. the way you see them when you open iPhoto).

In iPhoto (NOT in the finder), create three iPhoto folders (file>new folder) called 2001, 2002, 2003.

Then create an ALBUM (file>new album) and name it "Mom's Birthday". Drag all the relevant photos from Library into "Mom's Birthday". Note that they will not disappear from Library - the Album is simply a pointer to the originals.

Now drag the Mom's Birthday ALBUM to the 2001 FOLDER. A little triangle will now appear beside the Folder name. Click on the triangle, and the contents of the folder (the list of albums) will collapse until you need to see them again.

Good luck.

Read up on creating smart folders as well. You can assign keywords to photos, then they will automatically get updated into your smartfolder.

I kinda like iPhoto....works good for me.

ah yeah thats what i was looking for
some type of hierarchal organization
thank you
